Nanjing Automobile’s plans for UK mass production of MG Rover cars are looking uncertain six months after the Chinese carmaker bought brand, with no restart deal signed, Reuters said on Friday. When Nanjing bought the brand in the summer, it said it aimed to employ 2,000 British workers and produce at least 80,000 saloon and sports cars a year within five years, on top of production in China. But — as previously reported by Leftlane — the company has not yet even sealed a deal with UK partner GB Sports to start making fewer than 100 a year of the MG SV supercar. “The fact this has not happened speaks volumes about the larger deal,” said the Reuters source.
