Few things are more British than MG and Rover, but both nameplates are currently owned by Chinese companies, Nanjing Automobile Group and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation. Confusingly, both build versions of the Rover 75: one for China and one for Britain.
Nanjing currently produces roadsters under the MG name in Longbridge in the United Kingdom and is set to produce the Rover 75 sedan. Shanghai produces an updated version of the Rover 75, called the Roewe 750, in China for the Chinese market. According to the China Daily newspaper, the two groups are looking to the Chinese government for help in creating one brand: MG Rover, a nameplate that existed from 2000-05.

The proposal is that Shanghai would take over Nanjing in a sort of joint venture. A joint venture would be beneficial to both groups because they currently produce what is essentially the same car, just sold under different names in different parts of the world.
