Gathering with friends to watch the Sunday race is a typical tradition for most NASCAR fans, but one Michigan woman took that practice to the extreme by watching the last two seasons alongside a dead roommate.

Linda Chase, a 72-year-old woman living in Jackson, Michigan, revealed to authorities that she kept the body of her dead roommate - Charles Williams Zigler - in her house for the last 18 months. Chase says Zigler, believed to have been 67 or 68 when he died, passed away around Christmas time in December 2010.

Chase says she kept Zigler, who remained in the chair he died in, washed and dressed to prevent the body from smelling. Chase continued to talk and watch NASCAR races with Zigler, just as she had when the man was alive.

"I didn't want to be alone," she explained to M Live. "He was the only guy who was ever nice to me."

The two lived together for the last 10-years, but were not romantically involved, according to Chase.

A medical examiner determined Zigler died of natural causes.

Chase's actions might not have been completely innocent, though. In addition to holding on to the body, Chase also cashed the man's Social Security checks. Prosecutors are currently determining what charges, if any, will be brought against Chase.
