Million-mile Silverado gets no bids on eBay

08/27/2008, 9:01 AM

By Andrew Ganz

Recently, we told you about the million-mile 1991 Chevrolet Silverado that a Wisconsin man was trying to sell on eBay for a minimum bid of $30,000. Despite the original motor (and multiple transmissions), Frank Oresnik was unable to get a single bid. He says now that he’s planning to put the Silverado on eBay again.

Later this week, according to the Associated Press, Oresnik will list the million-mile-plus Silverado on eBay with no reserve and no minimum bid. Though Oresnik claimed General Motors was interested in buying back the truck, it appears that the Detroit automaker wasn’t willing to part with $30,000.

Wow! No one wants to pay $30k for a 17 year old pick-up?
I’m shocked!

Apparently this mileage is no big deal for GM. They had a TV ad for the Silverado with high mileage chevy trucks shown during the Olympics, and they showed a contractor with a 30 year old Silverado with over 2 million miles on it. Don’t know if it had the original engine in it, so maybe that’s what makes this 1 million mile one special?

there are plently of hight milage chevy trucks still on the road…the chevy small block used in these trucks is pretty bullet proof and will run a long time if its well maintained…that being said, why would you pay for a million mile example of 30 grand can get you in a brand new one? i dont understand the point

GM should give him a big discount on a new one simply for the free positive publicity they are getting.

But corporations don’t think that way. They would rather pay their execs to fart.

If he had gotten the 30k I’m not sure what there would have been more of: people rolling their eyes or their odometers.

im not shooked, i mean anyone who wants to buy this would be a fool, the miles per galon of that thing must be like you can get a brand new one, with waranty, and a good interior, $300 is a steap price in my opinion

anyone dropping out of their pants at this news? i mean… like almost all the posters above said… whod want a 17 yo. working horse that ran a million miles, thus clearly above the limit anyone would expect out of it… if gm dont want it, who else would? gm at least “might” be able to use it as a promotional item, but then again, they want to get away from the gas-guzzling image – of which the silverado is a part… plus i doubt the have the spare 30k at the moment :p

No reserve? Sounds like the fire sale that GM is doing right now; employee pricing.

Look at the link below. He had one bid, which was retracted six hours later. That’s pretty funny.

And people think Americans are stupid? Not stupid enough to bid on this truck, that’s for sure.

Maybe if he donated it to GM like that guy with the million plus mile abb did, he would get a new one.

Did it switch back to the new layout again? I had that for about two hours, and now I’m back to the old one.

Maybe folks would be more inclined to bid if he did not have his html messed up so the text is all underlined when you use a real browser. Lordy, the whole thing looks like one giant link.
