At today's New York International Auto Show, BMW's Mini brand announced pricing for the high-performance John Cooper Works models. The standard hardtop will run $29,200 and the extended-length Clubman will start at $31,450.

Both of those prices include the $650 transportation fee as well as three years' scheduled maintenance. Mini said that the JCWs will go on sale in mid-summer.

Powered by a 208 horsepower four-cylinder - the same motor that's in the Mini Challenge race car - the JCWs are capable of a 147 mile-per-hour top speed. The standard model runs to 60 miles per hour in 6.2 seconds and the Clubman takes 6.5 seconds to reach the same mark.

A full line of appearance and performance upgrades are available, though unique styling bits and Brembo brakes will be standard on the JCWs.

  3. This is my next car: lithe, economical and go-kart fun. The car comes kitted out with everything I want, only option needed is Xenons.

  4. Yes the interior is silly, but it is the ultimate city car.

  5. Two things:
    1. Notice there is no km/h on the speedo.
    2. Suede on the steering wheel!

  10. considering this car is faster around the Nordschleife of Nürburgring then a Honda S2000, VW R32, AUDI TT 2.0, Honda Civic Type R… i would say its pretty much worth every penny consider the amount of performance you get… and please do not mention such cars as the speed3 or cobalt ss because they would have torque steered into a tree…

Comment by mars_Smiley, posted on March20 at 1:04 pm
  11. haha mars_Smiley but they do cost less, are much quicker and ran quicker gring times then this.

Anyways I love the Mini Cooper, but for the level of performance, 29k is too much for me personally.

  12. also only associate torque steer with the Mazdaspeed 3. That has it but the Cobalt SS S/C didn't and the Cobalt SS T/C won't either. Ok I'm done.

  13. :)) The price is ridiculous!
    BMW is ripping people off!

Might be the smallest most expensive 30k car on the market! In one word: OVERPRICED!

  15. There are much cheaper ways to get 30-40 horsepower and bigger brakes. Especially when you get them at prices like MINI/BMW does.

  16. There are two types of diamonds ones from Tiffany's and ones you buy at the mall. This car ain't from the mall.

  17. It's lightweight, has torque and gets good mileage. What more do you really need on a daily basis?

Comment by mr.meanpants, posted on March20 at 5:15 pm
  18. lol That's funny I was just at a mall and there was Tiffany's.

  19. Financially speaking the car is a great buy, if you don't intend to put a lot of miles and drive it through ice and snow. It will hold price due to exclusivity. I test drove non-turbo hatch and it was the most delightful car one can imagine. I don't think I would need turbo. With 118 ponies it felt much livelier then Volvo C30 with over 220.
SS4Life did you see the stripper Tiffany in the mall? Do you know her also?

  20. Not to question any one's sexuality, but if you put 100 guys in front of this and a Mustang GT and said 'they're each worth 29k, stand next to the one you'd buy', I'd be willing to bet the guys left next to the Mini would be far less likely to ever be caught buying tampons for their girlfriend.

  21. Overpriced. Unreliable. Cheap interior … look at the center stack. And look at the false advertising … you only get rims to differentiate you from a regular S (rims I wouldn't want) … no skirt package.

Ask the suckers who overpaid for their MINIs and had to pay $8k to replace their CVTs … the 3-year maintenance is false comfort. Or ask the suckers who bought used, and overpaid to a greater extent than new, and then pay stupid amounts of money for parts and labour out of warranty.

Or ask the people who are hearing nightmare-inducing noise at start-up in cool/cold weather … even KIAs don't experience such embarassing situations.

  22. Haha actually she was a hooker autonut. No actually while I was out buying my girlfriend a new purse from Gucci at the Somerset Collection Tiffany's Jewelers was right next to it so I stopped and got her 5ct diamond ring to go with her new purse…

ANYWAYS The Mini is definitely a nice and fun little car. But all of you can pay 30k for a FWD 208hp Mini that will get walked over by a SS S/C and T/C, Neon and Caliber SRT-4, Mazdaspeed 3 etc that are considerably less expensive on the street or track. So I hope you still feel justified in forking out that kind of cash after your Mini Cooper gets left behind at a light by any of these.

  23. Mini is a fine car that fills a definite void. It's just that it's marketed as a boutique car when it should be a people's car.

  24. You're all right, there are Tiffany's at the mall; there's one here in Atlanta. Whoops. What the hell do I know about diamonds?

  25. As for being trounced on by Mazda, Chevy and others, maybe numbers-wise, but there is more to driving than numbers. And that is where the Mini excels.

Comment by mr.meanpants, posted on March21 at 8:00 am
  26. lol it's cool. The Mini is an awesome car, and I didn't mean to diss it or anything because I actually really like it and if I could afford one I'd consider it. It's unique, and although I have not driven one I've heard it's a blast to drive, and maybe I'll be able to have have the experience of driving it some day.

After I saw the Italian job and after I saw Jason Statham's white Mini Cooper S with the black racing stripes I wanted one like that ever since. Throw some black rims on it too and that would be my Mini. Maybe someday. lol

  28. i dont understand why its only compared in straight line peformance.. it would walk an an srt4 on or ss s/c on the track.. thats what it was designed for. THE TRACK..

  29. haha mars_Smiley which car holds the record for the fastest time for FWD production car on the Nurbergring?? It's not the Mini Cooper S…

  30. I can't spell that track. Nurburgring.

Comment by SS4LIFE, posted on March21 at 7:54 pm
  31. johnnycanuck, I will buy Mini over 'Tang and I am buying tampons for Mrs for number of years.
SS4LIFE, I don't care what car beats Mini at Nurburging - test drive Mini and let me know if needs to be beaten. It's the whole package: steering wheel, clutch and tranny function, composure on the road, handling, engine noise. I think that thing turned me into a fag, OMG!

Comment by autonut, posted on March21 at 8:55 pm
  32. As per usual, autonut, you are the exception to the rule! As for me I would be standing by the Stang, but after 16 years I'm proud to say my shopping cart is still tampon free.

Comment by johnnycanuck, posted on March21 at 9:36 pm
  33. autonut: Yes, you're basically buying performance and a rather unique look. I'd expect it to be somewhere in the $31K fully loaded. It's only 0.1 sec faster than a cheaper bigger and safer Accord coupe 3.5 with leather… The only time I will choose the Mini is if I work in the downtown. Then again, maybe not…

Comment by Veda, posted on March21 at 11:51 pm
  34. 'Veda', not even close … do some research before you post nonsense … $31k … you're out to lunch. And to compare this to an Accord is foolish … the Accord looks like regurgitated lunch.

  35. who says im comparing it to the fastest FWD production cars.. im comparing it to its competitiors, which it will surely beat around the track…

Comment by mars_Smiley, posted on March24 at 12:54 am
  36. ok mars_Smiley. But I do know of one FWD car that it won't beat on the street or track.

  40. haha ok mars_Smiley for your sake then I hope a Mini Cooper S isn't pitted up against the 08 Cobalt SS Turbocharged, because in the U.S I've seen in autocross events Minis get destroyed on the track by my stock SS supercharged with 55hp less then the 08 model. also you want to continue to talk about torque steer that is actually non existent on this car that I've mentioned here's a second opinion…

  41. Anyways I'm not trying to bash on the Mini Cooper S in any way. It has great looks, a very unique interior, a great fun to drive factor. I'm also aware that a regular Mini Cooper S doesn't cost 29k either. It's 21k U.S (which would be less then the 08 Cobalt SS Turbocharged) actually. Although it has less hp (175hp) I know Mini sells an after market kit that gives it a better flowing exhaust, better intake, larger fuel injectors and larger fuel rod, and at the time the Cooper S had a supercharger it gave it a larger S/C so I'm assuming since it switched over to a turbo, probably a larger turbo to improve power. The Mini is a cool car and I actually wouldn't mind having one.
