[photo update] MINI Cooper S John Cooper Works Tuning kit

11/16/2007, 3:50 PM

By admin

BMW has announced a new Cooper Works Tuning kit for the 2007 R56 MINI Cooper S. The package bumps output of the 1.6 litre turbo engine to 192 horsepower, with maximum torque up to 250 Newton metres in the engine speed range between 1,750 and 5,000 rpm.

With the overboost function, the torque level can even be increased temporarily to 270 Nm for powerful acceleration in the engine speed range from 1,750 to 4,500 rpm.

The kit also consists of a sports exhaust system, a sports air filter and an electronic engine management system optimized for greater power efficiency.

The sports suspension not only ensures even more agile handling but also lowers the suspension by 10 millimetres. In keeping with this, John Cooper Works provides an aerodynamic body kit in body color – consisting of a front and rear apron and side sills – as well as several versions of 18-inch light allow wheels. The “Double Spoke” design is new for 2007.

It also features perforated brake discs, numerous equipment components in carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic, and high-tech Formula 1 trim panels for the front air inlet, exterior mirrors and tailgate handle.

these cars are just incredible. Simply one of the most fun cars out there, especially for the buck. Whats more is these little cars feel like they go much faster and corner much harder than they actually do. It is always a fun-fest to drive one!….even without the works.

I have ‘06 JCW with 207hp. The only problem I have… is to manage driving it slow :) 200hp for ‘07 is the first upgrade stage. More stages will be available. Visit motoringfile.com for more info.

Looks sweet, it’s a nice add on package that’s for sure.

deutschetouring1337: No **** genius, the point of the Mini isn’t the drag strip.

it’s meter-Newtons, not Newton-meters. The latter is reserved to mean a Joule :)

How much though? The costs of the JCW MIni has always been, IMO, it’s biggest downfall. That and the interior, but I could overlook/get used to that.

The Mini Cooper S is “Torbocharged” and the JCW has a nice suspension too. Even the stock Mini Cooper has a nice suspension.

Haha yeah I def got respect for these little rockets, unfortunately for the price you think Mini would give this a little more than 192hp. I mean i’m sure this is more than plenty for it, but it’s going to have some serious competition in it’s segment like the Mazdaspeed 3, that’s what got 263hp? The SRT-4 Caliber with 285hp+ and next to come the 08 Cobalt SS with 260hp? I know hp isn’t everything, handling is also a serious matter as well but unless one of these Minis Cooper S with these kits is going to cost more around the price of one of the latter cars I mentioned I’ll save my money for an 08 SS and throw a stage 2 kit, couple of bolt ons and have 300hp and still cost less. But that’s just me, and the cooper especially looking like this is really mean looking, def better looking than everything else I’ve mentioned. I’m just not trying to sound like I’m biased towards anything else (don’t rip on me because of my log in name either ;) . Not gonna lie after I saw the Italian Job and Jason Statham driving the white one with black top and black rally stripes I wanted one so bad. Still want one but my pockets aren’t so deep so for this price I’ll stick with something a little less expensive.

That’s real talk SS4LIFE. The fact is as good as these cars are, they have serious competition in the marketplace, namely the Mazdaspeed 3 and Cobalt SS. Even the Civic Si. Fans will definitely buy it, but for those seeking a bit more bang for less buck, they wouldn’t even look at it if it’s too expensive. For me, anything over $26K is too close to Evo/STi territory, and as much as I love and respect this car, personally I’d save and hold out for one of them instead if I was in the market for a new car.

Ok Mini is owned by BMW, so my next question is how much? If it is priced like the 1 series, they can keep it. I suspect it’s not the case. Mini FTW!

Haha yeah well Mini is owned by BMW so you never know sharpie. well I was on Mini’s website and I’ve built and priced one that inlcuded the sport package, leather inserts, Stripes, Stability Control, LSD, JCW wheels, Sport suspension, JCW Aero Kit and the JCW Stage 1 kit. By the time I added everything up, I was looking between 26-27k and that would be without the cost of the kit mentioned above. Nice car but too much for all this stuff. Compared to other cars in it’s segment I’d say that’s a little over priced. I agree with ya jamaicandude that once you approach 26k you are in EVO/STI territory. I mean hell my buddy just bought a 05 GTO with 16k miles for like 24k in pristine condition. Comparing used car prices shouldn’t be factored in comparing this to them but I was just giving an idea of what we’re talking about for this price range. Not to mention I’ve been seeing alot of the leftover 06 GTO’s going for like 28k with rebates. But compared to the cars in it’s segment you’re even stepping up into 350Z/RX8 territory. If this car was priced even at 24k with all this stuff and I really wanted one I’d probably be able to convince myself to spend the extra couple grand in getting one. But I don’t know who here has bought a Mini Cooper S and modded it with the JCW performance accessories and how much overall have you spent on your car? Anyone want to give us some ideas?

how much will this be like £10,000?
( p.s thats a pound sign )

You could easily spend £25000 on one without any of the carbon exterior bits. Then again £1 is worth $2, so if there $25000 (£12500 obviously without shipping etc) over in the ‘States, then thats a pretty good deal!

Further to my above comment – £10,000 will probably get you a just out of warranty, so 3 year old, Cooper, with average miles.
