Mitsubishi confirms production of Concept-cX, reveals specs

Back at the New York Auto Show in March, Mitsubishi said it would bring its Concept-cX to production in North America. While we still don’t know when exactly it will make its debut here, new reports revealed information on the little SUV as it will appear overseas.

U.K. magazine Autocar reports the vehicle will come standard with an all-wheel drive system when it goes on sale late in 2009 in the United Kingdom. Power will come from Euro 5 emissions compliant diesel engines, with a new 1.8 liter turbocharged four-cylinder chief among them. Good for 134 horsepower and 207lb-ft of torque, the powerplant will be mated to the same type of SST twin-clutch transmission as is offered in the Lancer Evolution X.

“The Concept-cX will become a new sub-Outlander model,” a senior Mitsubishi source told Autocar. Styling will remain similar to the concept car’s, with a split tailgate and aggressive front end likely retained. On the road to production, the cX badge will be replaced by something more in-line to the rest of the automaker’s offerings.

It has the front end of a mustang, and the backside of a pt-cruiser haha never thought in my wildest dreams i would ever see those two combined. The in dash Nav looks Awesome though so kudos on that.

I like the look of it. A bit of C30 in the hatch area, a little Audi in the grill. Ironically the car slated to be build in US (Indiana?) but diesel will go to UK and we probably will not get any.

It would be a cool practical wagon but they need to make AWD an option - not standard - at least in the USA. A good chunk of the country doesn’t need it weatherwise and many buyers won’t want the mileage penalty.

I’ve taken $h*ts that look better than that thing. Is there a contest for the worlds ugliest car?? They have my vote, hands down. I do like the Evo though..

Great Job Mitsu. The more choices in the US the better.
Now bring over the the “i” and the Colt & Colt convertible as a sub Eclipse convertible choice.

That cool looking **** like the SAT NAV and the mid mounted shifter will only make it to concepts. You think Mistu will give us that stuff in a little cheap econo car? Nope.

I don’t know. I’d except crap like this from Suzuki, but Mitsubishi! Well… I guess that’s not so far fetched now that I really think about it.
