If I had to guess, I’d say they’re waiting for the MR version to roll out the 6 speed manual. That’s the one I want. I’m not really a fan of these dual clutch trannies either.

Yeah, I could care less about the SST because I’d much rather have a stick. But yeah Mitsu should come out with a 6spd instead of a 5psd that’s gay. My guess is that a little later in the EVO X’s life like 09, 10 they’ll give it a 6spd. All car companies do this as a tactic to keep sales up. That or that they’ll give it a 5spd on the stock EVO X and on the MR model then they’ll give it a 6spd. that’s my guess though. But I’ll take the 5spd over and auto or dual clutch tranny.

Why only 5-spd???

Anyways if I were to get an Evo it would be manual. The dual clutch sounds good and sounds like it has quicker shifts, but I would through a BOV on a manual and enjoy that pleasing sound of woosh everytime you shift.

You know how you could solve the global warming/greenhouse gas issue: just find all the old K Cars and their zillion bastardized cousins powered by f*cking Mitsu engines and pull them off the planet. Have you ever been stuck in traffic behind the 300lb soccer blob/mom driving the filthy ‘92 Caravan that as soon as she hits the gas to ooze her way into traffic you suddenly find yourself in the midst of enough belching exhaust poison to make you want to puke. Guaranteed that’s a 3.0l Mitsu POS lump under the hood, as were the 2.6l 4 cylinders before it. keep your f*cking Mitsus. They’re all ugly anyways.

Scarface, VW has no secrets. Their cars are so unreliable that nobody (and very often mechanics) know what ills them. So poorly shifting tranny may not surprise anyone. I usually see HS girls driving VW bought by daddy. By the time they go to college (if they can make it) it is a different set of wheels. I also see a lot of lawn caretakers (in my neighborhood they all are from So. America) tinkering with second hand VW, but I think their John Deers are much more reliable and require less attention.

I think you’re right. The dual clutch trannies apparently are more trouble than one might think. Even Porsche had wanted its 997 Turbo to debut with a dual-clutch transmission, but it hadn’t been developed in time. What’s VW’s secret?

Anyway, this news is a bit of a shock, because I don’t think any of the mags that drove pre-production Evo X’s complained about the dual-clutch. Mitsu needs to get its act together. They’ll sell Evos without it, to be sure, but I don’t think the company needs setbacks (of any kind).

Good. Better have them fix the bugs early before leaving the factory than having customers discover serious issues down the road. Some companies like Toy Ota seem to have a tendency to do just the opposite, though…

O wonder how wonderful this tranny really is. BMW & Benz who also fooled around with it are staying with plane Jane autos. Except VW family of manufacturers nobody went the route. Well, except Mitsubishi to a point. I recall Beetles-for-girls-who-could-not-use-left-foot and it was not a glaring success. Could history repeat itself? There was much ado about CVT few years back, and very few car makers dropped them under the hood.
