Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Concept to arrive in Detroit

12/15/2006, 1:28 PM

By admin

When Mitsubishi revealed its 2008 Lancer sedan on Monday, we
wondered why the unveiling wasn’t saved for the upcoming Detroit auto show. As it turns out, the Japanese automaker will use the Detroit show to unveil something more exciting — a concept version of the 2008 Lancer Evolution.

The company has released two sketches as a preview of the new performance sedan, which will be unveiled official in early January. We can’t tell you anything about specs yet, but all those details should become available in the coming weeks. Images after the jump…

Typo or Freudian slip – are they revealing something exCiting or are they exiting?

Actually, The sketch makes me wonder… What would a Lancer look like with a chopped roof? But if the sketch is any indication to what the actual vehicle will look like, cool.

The basic lancer turned out pretty good so the Evo should only improve upon it. The back fascia looks flat though, needs some more features there. Hopefully they bump up the displacement to 2.2L-2.4L, something about running 17psi stock sounds a little odd.

Actually Foster, I would love for you to name those 20 other cars this concept looks like. Because I don’t see a lot of similarity with anything, right now. I don’t personally like Mitsubishi that much, but I recognize the fact that they make one beastly car with the Evolution. If American car companies would be a bit better with their design concepts and build quality, maybe the Japanese wouldn’t hand us our asses all the time.

So Foster, what is a good car if the ‘Japs’ can’t get it right?

This car is going to be amazing. I think they did a great job with the EVo VIII and IX in making them MUCH better looking than the standard Lancer. With the new lancer actually looking good then the Evo will be a true stunner. and faaaaast.

Foster,
I think the design looks great, owning an IX myself, but the question I have for you is: How does it stack up compared to your KIA? Just curious.

Andre how is the build quality on your IX?

I am desparate for a new ride, but nothing appeals; I have high hopes for the X, but drive a Subaru now and it is not built as tightly as I would expect for a $30,000 car.

meanpants555,
I love my car. Every time people ask me the whole Suburu STi vs. Evo question, all I tell them is to go drive them both. Im the member of a certain well known Suburu forum and ALMOST everyone has said once before that they wish they’ve gotten the Mitsu.
As for build quality, it’s not something I was concerned with when I was shopping for a car like this. If I wanted better build quality, I could’ve gotten a Bmw 335 or a Lexus IS350 for the price of my MR. But im happy I didn’t, because everytime I leave work, Im looking foward to the ride back home, every single time. Sure it doesn’t have soft cushion seats, or leather wrapped dashboard or whatever, but it’ll out-perform 99% of the (new)cars priced near or under it(the 1% probably being Lotus Elise).
It’s one of the most fun cars i’ve ever driven. Take it from someone who drives Porsches & Astons everyday at work.

I recently saw a couple of photos of the new lancer in the automotive newspaper that I receive at work and it looks alright, the front end it acceptable but the body is aweful. Why in gods name would they make it a 4 door. it’s not sporty at all. Never like the evos to begin with. Sure they have power under the hood but the boxy style is by far not the greatest.

^ just your opinion I guess. Also, there aren’t any guidelines as far as how many doors are required to make a car “sporty”. It being a four door makes it more practical for an every day car.

I dont see the engine changing from 2.0l I think there are some regulations to engine size in the competitions that the EVO competes in. (I am trying to remember from top gear)

Veda,
I’ve driven pretty much all of the previous models. Vanquish, Vanquish S, new V8 Vantage, & DB9’s. I believe you get a year extra warranty ontop of whatever is left on a used Aston.
If your interested in buying a used one, just email me and I’ll set you up with our Aston Martin salesman. I don’t think we have any used ones in our showroom but he can probably locate a low-mileage one if we don’t. I would highly recommend a V8 vantage. We have a couple ones left including DB9s to choose from, unless you want to order one and wait ’til July/August for one. Just let me know.

You never know, Subaru uses a 2.5L horizontally opposed turbocharged boxer 4 engine in their STI, however, their rally car is still equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged (obviously) boxer 4 :)

I hope this car gets keyed and burned at the Auto Show. I don’t know why Mitsubishi is even bothering, they’re just one in a string of car builders that are going to be wiped off the map by the American Revolution that is GM.

Besides, nobody goes to car shows to check out anything but the GM displays. They are always packed with people who can’t wait to own one some day. The rest of the carmakers have like one or two little blind, retarded kids running around them. Everyone else could give two ****s about them.
