Mitsubishi to launch 400-horse Evolution X FQ400

10/15/2008, 3:40 PM

By Andrew Ganz

Mitsubishi has given the go-ahead to a road-going 400 horsepower plus variant of the Lancer Evolution after a race-prepared 400 horsepower Evo competed in the Britcar Championship at Silverstone in the United Kingdom. Following up on the FQ300 and FQ360 versions of previous Lancer Evolutions, the FQ400 is set to go on sale in the U.K. next year.

We’d anticipate the FQ400 featuring a new turbocharger and exhaust manifold, as well as a revised fuel delivery system and ECU. No doubt a few additional aerodynamic add-ons, as well as a few weight-reducing measures, will help the FQ400 achieve 0-60 figures under four seconds.

The race car was prepared by ADR Motorsport, the same group that prepared the Evolutions that compete in the British Rally Championship.

Worldwide sale hasn’t been confirmed, though sale outside of the U.K. isn’t likely at first. Sources suggest that the FQ400 would retail for £45,000.

0-60 in under 4 seconds? thats sick,!I think, though Im not sure, that it would sell for around 60 grand here, though, its a hell of a deal considering this thing will be able to hang with Corvettes, 911s,M3s, and C63s it is still going to be hard to get any one but the hard core rally lover to pony up that kind of cash for a Mistsubishi

LLN, pimpin’ style!

Click that if you want a chuckle. As for a 400hp Evo that costs about $75k, that’s crazy. That puts it in price company with a lot more desirable merchandise. You’d have to be a major league rice fanatic to part with that kind of coin for this vehicle.

I’m sure there’s already no shortage of aftermarket bits to get your Evo to 400 horse if you so desire and for far less money.

Yeah, but the old FQ400 could hang with Lamborghinis, not just corvettes 911s etc.

there were some problems, but check out what Top Gear has to say… and this is the old one mind you, the new one is probably even better.

if it came in at around $50k, it would be a big hit, i guarantee it wouldnt travel to $75k, especially when a much more “complete” 420hp V8 RS4 comes in with a $67k MSRP.

What happened to the EVO and STI? They were the poorman’s sports car and now they cost $43K? This one will never be seen in the states.

@hecti -> Exactly. Buy a normal EVOX, throw a few thousand of mods into it and you have a 400hp EVO. Only problem is you have no more warranty on your powertrain, but most people don’t care about that any ways, nor does Mitsubishi like to honor warranty claims on these cars.

0-60 time in under 4 seconds is thanks to AWD. A better test of how quick this car is would be quarter mile time and trap speed, and 0-150. That’s where the big dogs roam. Puppies do 0-60.

Actually the big dogs don’t roam on the straightaways at all, unless you drive a Vette of course.
