2010 Mitsubishi Outlander GT Prototype revealed [Live Image Update]

Mitsubishi’s presence at this year’s New York Auto Show will be highlighted by the Outlander GT Prototype — a preview of a forthcoming redesign to the automaker’s popular compact crossover SUV. As you will see, the new Outlander borrows heavily from the Lancer sedan — note the “Jet Fighter” grille — increasing its family resemblance.
The prototype is packed with a host of new technologies, such as Idle Neutral Logic, which automatically shifts the transmission into neutral during vehicle standstill. Other highlights include improved performance and fuel economy from its more powerful 3.0-liter SOHC MIVEC V6 engine, and a Super-All-Wheel-Control System offering improved handling and control.
Despite the updates up front, it doesn’t look like the Outlander’s hind-quarter received any attention from Mitsubishi’s design department.
The official unveiling of the crossover will take place tomorrow morning, though we were able to get a sneak peak of the modified crossover earlier today at the New York International Auto Show.

Anyone else notice they covered the dash with either leather or pleather? I guess they too realized people don’t like their car’s plastic interior to match the plastic used for a Rubbermaid trash can

I actually like this, but it looks weird with the longer front overhang vs the rear overhang. I was hoping for a severely updated interior, but I see that isn’t about to happen.

these are sharp little CUV’s, with a turbo-4 they would be an amazing value and a great performer.

There is very little “little” in a rig that weights over 3500 lbs. 4 cyl turbo costs as much as 6 pot and usually consumes just as much fuel. In Europe I saw few Peugeot based on this thing and it looked good; Honestly it did not look that bad either, before somebody adopted Audi honker to it and then oversized it. Also, Peugeot packs its diesel which has torque of good size 6 pot or better and they move quite enthusiastically with manual tranny.

It looks like a Lancer wagon, and station wagons are dead for a reason. The current Outlander looks just fine, but this new one looks terrible. Why didn’t they leave it alone?

it has the odd proportions of something between an estate wagon and an suv. sort of like the subie forester. a successful version of that combination was the isuzu axiom, a jacked up estate.

Now that is homely.
I give Mitsubishi 2 years until it withdraws from the USA market.

I dont understand why everyone hates the lancer style front end. I think its one of the nicest, coolest looking designs on the road today.

I like the front grill, but the back quartter panel and rear end kill the car for me. The interior looks nice compared to what I remeber of the last gen.
