Mitsubishi should stick to the one car they got right, the Lancer (the EVO in particular). I bought an 03 Lancer and loved it. No problems with anything on the car, the interior was simple, which I liked. Only reason why I got rid of it was because I yearned for more power, better suspension, and less depreciation.

They’ve done nothing to give themselves an image since the 3000GT/Stealth. And that’s the other part of the problem: there are probably more people out there than you care to think who still look at them as Chrysler’s little adopted Japanese brother.

Up here an Eclipse V6 starts at about 35k large. That’s a joke and even the ricers won’t go near it. Well that and the fact it looks like the bastard stepchild of a Pontiac Grand-Am.

About the only two relevant products that Mitsubishi produces anymore are the Lancer and this. But even the Lancer, the lower end models, are horrible in terms of quality, design and substance. I had high hopes for this, but obviously not.

I’ve always wanted Mitsubishi to import the Colt over here, it’s a sharp looking car. But alas, I’ve heard it also has a cheap interior and little substance.

Don’t get me wrong blitzkrieg, I really really wanted to like that car. I had wanted to buy one because I too like the outside looks. But seriously, it’s interior is not just bad, it’s horrible. The plastics are really hard and there isn’t much in terms of color inside besides black.

That being said, the CX-7 isn’t better at all, and the one’s you mentioned also are pretty bad. That’s why I stay from small crossovers, they cheapen them up because the buyers in that market aren’t looking at what I care about, my opinion – it’s a chick car market and in general women don’t know the difference. To be honest, the Saturn Vue is a good alternative to this, it’s actually nice inside. So is the Tiguan, then again it’s a VW so it will cost more, but you get what you pay for sometimes.

I also agree with LLL#3, they will be gone soon. The Galant is the #1 rental car at my company right now, and that’s where most of there sales came from.

I don’t believe Mitsubishi Auto division is going anywhere elsewhere in the world. I think Mitsubishi Industries will stick to canning tuna and electronic equipment.

Mitsubishi simply does not make enough enticing models to remain in the States. I see Mits shuttering its US sales and operations in the not too distance future; sales were down 57% last month, 51% the month before.

@JakeK66, not easy to please, considering that the same Outlander in Asia and Europe has won numerous awards over essentially the same competition and here in USA it gets dodged by most of the press I would say that Americans have weird tastes, but then again, what would an average American know about style…
I believe that car interior should be as simple as it can get (in simple I don’t mean cheap and when you actually touch the Outlanders plastics I don’t think they are that much cheaper than lets say Rav4). Again, if you want cheap interior, you should look at Nissan Rogue, not Outlander and if a 2010 Equinox wouldn’t have a better interior than a 2006 car then there definitely would be something wrong with Chevy.
On another note, Mitsubishis marketing department is as worse as they come, product wise they are not any worse then the competition. Funny that Hyundai is one of the companies on the rise when in fact it was Mitsubishi that helped them get off the ground…

Are you kidding me????? First of is this review comparing Outlander to? All the people knocking down the Outlanders interior, it is driver oriented, nice and simple without an array of distracting buttons that look “Cool”, I really don’t see this cars interior to be any worse than CR-V or Rav4 (at least material wise). Performance with the 2.4l is NOT any worse than CR-V or Rav4 AND you can get this car with all the incentives/rebates for thousands of dollars less than the other two PLUS in my opinion, it offers the best exterior styling. Anyway, no one will tell me that overall, price/performance/aesthetic wise this Outlander is any worse than its price point competitors, not CRV, not Rav4, and definitely not Rogue (talking about cheap interiors).

I like the looks of these, but when I drove one, even a V6 one, I came up exactly with the same impression as LLN. Really Mitsubishi? My Protege5 I had five years ago kicked this interior’s a$$ and it too came with a subwoofer, in it’s spare tire!! (That was a really different and good Idea, I have to say).

The interior in this made me want to vomit. Everything felt and was cheap, even the nav system looked like a Wal Mart special.

Does it have a transmission, steering system or brakes. These may be trivial but, there is no mention of any of them in the article?

we have had our Outlander since December 06′ and we can’t say enough great things about it. Its also a V6 while this one tested here is a 4 banger – but between the V6 power, the totally bangin sound system, and the awd option, we love our Outlander. It doesn’t feel cheap, it has ginormous cargo volume, the split rear hatch is great for tailgating, and its fun to drive!! We were skeptical about buying a Mitsubishi product, but we have thoroughly enjoyed our fast, bumpin little suv.
