Mitsubishi pulls out of Detroit auto show

Mitsubishi has cancelled plans for an exhibit at the Detroit auto show in January, citing the need to cut costs in these tough financial times. The Japanese carmaker is the fifth company to withdraw from the event, following in the footsteps of Ferrari, Land Rover, Rolls-Royce, and Suzuki.

It’s not known if Mitsubishi was planning to make any major concept or production car unveilings, but last year the company used the show to launch its Ma href=”http://www.leftlanenews.com/mitsubishi-concept-ra-future.html”>Concept-RA and Lancer Ralliart. At the 2007 show, Mitsubishi launched its new Lancer sedan, and in 2006 it revealed the latest Eclipse Spyder. Not attending this year does not preclude the automaker from coming back next year, according to Automotive News.

Rumors continue to circulate that more automakers could pull the plug on their presence at the show, which could make NAIAS 2009 one of the most unusual Detroit show in recent memory.

On the rise is the number of Chinese automakers at the show, with another major firm making its first appearance in Detroit. China’s Brilliance Auto will have its first ever exhibit, and BYD will be returning for its second year.

I’m sorry, did you say Mitsubishi?
I have not cared about them since they pulled the plug on the 3000GT.
Talk about Bad decisions!!

Did you see a 3000GT lately, even now, 10 years later, they still are the BEST looking cars on the road!

funrudy66 - that’s true, 3000GT was one of the best car Mitsubishi made and I do wish they can continue.

Need more oil for GM - grow up man, if wasn’t Japanese car GM won’t have small vehicle right now.

As what Bank of America CEO say that until middle of next year we going to be struggling , but until then we just have to hope is not going to be as worse as where we at right now.
Mitsubishi car has been push off the market by Chrysler for long time now, that’s why they don’t have any good vehicle. However, things can change, plus Mitsubishi still contract with two Korea vehicle and they are doing pretty good so far.

I’ll be surprised if GM and Ford show up at Detroit this year. They might as well rename the L.A. show the North American International Auto Show from now on. Really sad….Cobo Hall will be the next empty space in Detroit.

I just hope that this pulling out trend of major companys doesn’t continue or else I, as I’m guessing many others as well, won’t want to go to because of the lack of interest. I want to go to see cars, and if there aren’t any cars, why go?

Which is just great because everyone is talking about how there is going to be a recession. Well, duh, if there isn’t interest across the nation for people to spend their money, they won’t, and that is what will cause it.

As and owner of an Evo, i’m kind of disappointed because Mitsu is totally under rated. They have really do make a good car and I love the styling of the new Outlander, Ecliple and Lancer. I’ve had a Galant, 3000GT, and now I’m on my 2nd Evo. I’ve never had any issues with any of those cars, unless I created them.

I hope they come back strong next year…….I hope (GULP)

I guess Detroit will be cold place this January for other reasons. Sadly for Mistu, I think their days are numbered in America. They just haven’t kept up with a solid lineup, just here-and-there.

Johnny, get your mind out of the gutter and promptly report back to the autoshow channel.

Anybody sees the Detroit Autoshow truly losing its presence? Before we know it, everything will move to Chicago, NY and LA. Sigh!
