Mitsubishi's Raider midsize pickup truck was first introduced as a 2006 model. As a part of a partnership with Chrysler, the truck is based on the Dodge Dakota. Even the truck's name comes from the 1987-1990 Dodge Raider, which was a re-badged Mitsubishi Montero.
The model line was streamlined for 2007 to include one extended-cab model and three Double Cab models. An optional V8 powerplant makes the Raider the only import-brand midsize pickup with am eight-cylinder engine.
The Raider is built on a fully boxed, hydro-formed and roll-formed steel frame, making it suitable for heavy towing and off-road driving.
All Raider models are built on the same long 131.3-inch wheelbase. The Extended Cab model has a 6.4-foot bed, and Double Cab models come with a 5.3-foot bed.
With more than 100 cubic feet of interior space -- including 36.4 inches of rear leg room -- the Raider Double Cab has room for as many as six people. The Extended Cab model, with seating for two in the rear, provides 32.1 inches of rear leg room.
The Raider V6 has a 3.7-liter SOHC unit producing 210 hp at 5200 rpm and 235 pound-feet of torque at 3600 rpm. Customers can chose from a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox. The more powerful 4.7-liter V8 motor offers 235 horsepower at 4800 rpm and 295 pound-feet of torque at 3200 rpm. A five-speed automatic is the only available gearbox.
