Mitsubishi Motors has just released a dark teaser image of a concept that is slated to make its debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show next March.
The Japanese company calls it a “strategic and innovative premium vehicle,” but it has not mentioned what market segment it will compete in.
Judging from the lone teaser image, the concept might be an evolution of the PX-MiEV II crossover that bowed at the Tokyo auto show last December. If that is the case, it will likely signal the end of the line for the Outlander SUV.
Mitsubishi announced that the yet-unnamed concept will enter production in late 2012. When it does, it will inaugurate a new, engineering-driven design language for the brand.
“This re-focused design language, while still being formulated, is envisaged as an open design concept, meant to be flexible enough to suit specific vehicle requirements whilst staging Mitsubishi’s famous Three Diamond logo accordingly,” said the brand in a statement.
The new vehicle is part of the Jump 2013 business plan that Mitsubishi drafted last year in order to transform itself into a greener and more global company. That means that the production-bound concept that will be displayed in Geneva could very well be Mitsubishi’s first mass-produced plug-in hybrid.
