Mitsubishi i s planning to sell a small electric car in the United States and Japan in the near future, according to Automotive News. President Osamu Masuko reportedly said the car will be powered by lithium-ion batteries. The announcement was made at a dealer meeting last week.
From an environmental standpoint, we believe the electric car is the way to go because it has zero emissions,” Masuko said. A timeframe was not disclosed, nor were specifics of the planned car. At the Detroit auto show in January, Mitsubishi revealed the Concept-CT MIEV hybrid show car (pictured). The concept has a 1.1-liter gasoline motor and small electric motors on each wheel, providing all-wheel-drive. A similar configuration could be applied to an all-electric car, as well.
