Your point is solid, but I can also wait for Hydrogen technology to improve...

Yard Dog, in many cases, the EVs can go for a few days between charges. If I were to have one, I could go nearly two weeks since my job is not all that far away. And sitting at a light doesn't discharge the batteries like idling uses gas. I wouldn't worry too much about the grid. We have a long way to go before we have any issues.

Think of it this way: There are 300 million people in the country. 150 million are the "work force", which are the ones that need to drive. There are only 1 million Priuses (Prii?) in the entire world after being on the market for 10 years. That's only 0.66% of the US work force driving Priuses – not even 1% yet. And not all of those 1 million cars are in the US, so the percentage is much lower. If EVs sold as quickly as the Prius over the next ten years, we most likely would not break that 1% mark. 1 million cars seems like such a big number, but when you compare it to the other numbers, it really isn't all that big. And by the time we make that 1% mark, our power companies will have restructured the grid to compensate.

But that's what makes the Volt so cool, too. You don't necessarily NEED a plug in, but if you have it, you will use that much less gas.

And if you want to conserve energy, invest in a PV system. Some are big enough to charge an EV without taking any power from the grid. That would be my ultimate setup – if I could afford it. Yeah, they have batteries, but batteries are getting more environmentally friendly each year.

I give Mitsubishi credit for stepping up in the Electric car market. I feel this way. If car companies were working on Electric Motors and Batteries the way they did the IC Engine for the Last 155 Years then we would'nt be having this dispute over foreign oil cause we would'nt need it. And I'd be willing to bet you could make an Electric car do the Speed of Sound and far more powerful and far better range than any IC engine equivalent.
