InLight Solutions has demonstrated a new noninvasive alcohol testing system that offers a needle-free method for testing blood for alcohol content. “This product launch will mark the beginning of the shift away from today’s predominantly breath alcohol testing practice to touch-based alcohol testing,” the company said. “Our product is based on near infrared spectroscopy and demonstrates a superior solution for providing unsupervised alcohol testing.” In other words, the technology uses infrared light to measure blood alcohol levels. MADD has publicly endorsed the technology. “Emerging technology is one of the most promising and potentially effective approaches to eliminate drunk driving in this country,” said Chuck Hurley, CEO of MADD. “These technologies may soon help us separate drunk drivers from their weapon–a vehicle.”
