Ted Bell, sorry to spell the bad news. I understand that you probably paid ungodly sum of money for VW with 4 rings and it is upsetting, ergo luck of common courtesy (then again if you were born on wrong side of tracks it may go in the family). Check under the hood (yes Audi will have 4 rings engine cover) but bellow that there is the same engine as in VW and transmission as well. If you drive A8 there is no corresponding VW or anything in S level with V8. All 4 and 6 cylinders are identical ditto transmissions their transmissions.

olds307, I recall law suit when Old owners were up in arms that they were driving Chevy powered cars and paid for Olds. I think the suit was lost by GM, but it was long time ago and I don’t recall all details.

Looks good. I always thought the 1st generation A6 looked amazing and then went downhill. This has the potential to become a strong nameplate, not just another also-ran playing second banana to the 5-series/E-class.

Actually the only Oldsmobile to have a Chevy engine was the 91-92 Custom Cruiser Wagon, Conversely the only Chevy that had a gasoline Olds engine was the 86-90 Caprice Wagon.

I tend to agree with olds on this one. There is only 1 4 cyl engine sold by VW and Audi in US, I think there is only one V6 and found in both VW and Audi models. A8 has V8 which is not part of VW repertoire. Transmissions are the same as well. So what the difference? Yep the body of Audi looks much better then VW, but underneath 90% of technology is shared. For the same reason folks bought Chevy and not more expensive Olds. Here you go: Chevy drivers are brilliant.

xyunya: Even if it costs the same as a comparably equipped 5 series I’d still get the A6. At this price point it’s all about personal preference and little details that make up the whole package. Personally I like the character, style, and driving dynamic of the quattro better than the E Class or 5 series.

I think it will be a good looking car. And I hope that there are some big improvements over the Current A6 that does not handle for Sh*t. I’d take an a4 over an a6 right now. But still now bmw. However the audi has a few things that the BMW does not that I like. Diffenent cars. I’d take one each.
