More Audi R8 spy shots

04/07/2006, 12:08 PM

New spy photos have emerged of the 2007/2007 Audi R8. The R8 is based heavily on the design of the Audi Le Mans Quattro Concept and the underpinnings of the Lamborghini Gallardo. A 450 hp 5.0-litre V10 powerplant coupled with a DSG transmission will push the car to 60 mph in four seconds, with a top speed of 200 mph. Recently, a prototype version of the car was spied in testing, covered in some sort of black cladding. This new set of images shows a painted car with less disguise (some still remains). The car appears to get a pop-up spoiler like the one from the 2007 TT. The production car is expected to be shown at the end of this year. (Front View | Side View | 3/4 Rear View | Rear View).

I like this car less without all of the camouflage. Something about doesn’t look right. It seemed better when it was black and had polka dots.

For some reason, it doesnt look as good to me as the last spy pics of it or the Concept version. These shots make it seem like an 75k car at most, the rear shot is less attractive and cohesive and frankly, the design of the new Audi TT (shots released yesterday) almost seems superior!

I agree. It’s just not as impressive in these pics.

You know why? For starters, the black camouflage along the bottom is distorting the rea lines and curves of the car. Next, the gray panel behind the doors on the side of the car has been painted over. Also, looking at the rear, you see a long single tailight– but really, its just red paint in between the tailights, which appear to be painted over as well actually. Those are just a few things. But that explains why the front end looks too skinny, why the car looks too long, and why the tail looks like crap.

I think when you see a production version, you’ll change your mind.

Just as the new TT did not look as impressive with the camo, the same point applies for the R8, I think it will look great in the end.

it looks like the frontend from a TT mated to the rearend of a Lambo. i think its mainly the different heights and angles of front and rear that really dont work well with me. or maybe its the combo of hard edges (rear brake vent) with soft everything else. and wheres the new signature grill! ;)

To me the wheels seem a bit too small for this car. I think that is also giving it a cheaper look to the overall car. I know it is still disguised and I will reserve a true comment about the vehicle until the real car shows its face.
