More Hummer models on the way

09/29/2006, 8:37 AM

By admin

General Motors wants to add several new models to its Hummer lineup, according to Vice Chairman Bob Lutz. “Hummer needs some more products. It needs two or three more products to give it sufficient market coverage,” Lutz told reporters at the opening of a Hummer dealership in Paris, according to Reuters.

Lutz said making a traditional pickup truck — unlike the short-bed H2 SUT — remains an “option.” GM executives have also said a smaller Hummer positioned against the new Jeep Wrangler is possible. In June, rumors began circulating that General Motors might dump the Chevrolet TrailBlazer and effectively replace it with a new Hummer model called the H4.

THis is awesome news. Thank you GM for providing the public with the most gas guzzling utes of any manufacturer. There is no other brand of vehicle that can match your dedication and loyalty to draining the world dry of oil.

Big Oil thanks you for your dedication. Don’t let some eco-weenie tell you otherwise. The environment isn’t as important as the satisfaction of driving one of these fine SUV’s.

I’m crossing my fingers for a return of the H1. C’mon everyone, dump whatever POS you’re driving now and go buy yourself a real vehicle, A Hummer!!! Or one of the dozen other full size utes in the GM stable.

Daddy needs an addition on his mansion.

Thank you
BigOil… and stockholders

As long as it’s done right (truly a smaller Hummer), an H4 would compete not only with Wrangler, but more importantly, against the foreign SUV’s. And the 5 cyclinder that is overburdened in the H3 would should do well in a smaller, ligher H4. Do it GM – quick, please!

The Hummer has been used as a poster child by environmentalist. The truth is that ALL manufacturers have their gas guzzlers including your lovely Toyota- isn’t the Land Cruiser, Tundra & Sequoia gas guzzler enough for you? They have big V8 similarly to the Hummer and GM SUV’s. Actually, the Sequoia is a copy of a Tahoe.
Anyways, the news is that Hummer will introduce SMALLER offerings- meaning less weight and with V6 or diesel engines. I think this is a step towards achieving your environmental goals.

Lanapat7, there’s nothing like dedicating your entire brand to gas guzzling products that would get environmentalist raging in eternal fury. Heck, Hummer really deserves that…

I have been waiting for a Wrangler competitor for a long time. Hummer has a real opportunity to design an awesome off-road vehicle at this point. Jeep, to their luck, has had zero competition. Vehicles like the XTerra and FJ Cruiser, they have off-road capabilities, but they are grounded on pavement. It’s the open doors, the bikini tops, and the dozen catalogs dedicated to Jeep customizing. I’ll take a Hummer variant.

OilInvestor – Go find some prozac and get your emotions in check. If you guys didn’t single out Hummer and Escalades all the time and actually held an unbiased opinion, I might have an ounce of respect for your argument. Your issues with Hummer have nothing to do with fuel mileage, but more with the redistribution of wealth. If you have such a problem with blatant displays of wealth, then why don’t you crusade against anyone who also owns a boat (yes a boat that spews it’s exhaust right into the water where all the wittle fishies live), or a Ferrari which gets far worse mileage than any Hummer. Or maybe even the $25k vehicles like a Jeep Wrangler that only gets 9mpg on a good day.

Veda, that might be true, but in all fairness they have consistently introduced more fuel efficient vehicles and the H1 has been cancelled. The market has shifted towards buying the H3 instead of the H2- which is good.
For example, I don’t see Mercedes Benz designing lighter vehicles with smaller engines (particularly AMG offerings) but they are spared the wrath of environmentalists.

GMT-900 SUV’s – 11
Toyota Full size – 3

And lanapat, GM is singled out because they have more full size GMT-900 SUV offerings than any other brands’ ENTIRE lineup!!!

Broken Caddy, calm yourself. The CO2 you’re emitting while getting so worked up is contributing to global warming.

I don’t need a link to prove the Wrangler gets 9mpg. Go research it yourself. I belong to an off-roading group, I know. The Wranglers, being an offroading vehicle is geared as such. Just because it has a 6 cylinger engine has no bearing on milage when it’s gearing is a 4:1 ratio.

Hummer sales of the H1 are compareable toFerrari sales. Less in fact. And the customers are the same ones who can afford either vehicle. That is why it’s relevant.

Also, in your biased attack on GM, you leave out Lexus, numb nuts. If you want a link, here, read this and educate yourself.

19 hwy*

4.0 L I-6
4-Speed Automatic Transmission 190 hp
235 lb-ft of torque

Nothing about 9mpg in stock form.

Toyota FJ Cruiser 4WD automatic: 17/21. (and that requires premium fuel!)
Nissan Xterra 4WD automatic: 16/21.
(all taken from fueleconomy.gov)

Point is, the only thing that makes the H3 a gas guzzling monstrosity is your own perceptions. Any Hummer this size or smaller will be competitive with fuel economy.

The H1 was a niche vehicle…if you had one, you took it off road.

It has nothing to do with MPG and environmentalism – it has to do with continually diminishing the Halo Effect the Hummer once had. The H1 was a “real” Hummer and created the entire excitement to begin with – the H2 was big enough to make people see similarities. The H3 is a complete joke as I seem them everyday – I dont think “oooh there a Hummer” – instead I think “look at that odd-shaped Jeep Cherokee.”

With the H3 alone, the Hummer “brand” was severely and permanently damaged – the Hummer “popularity craze” is long over and GM is planning on making even more, newer versions?? Ridiculous! Soon the word “Hummer” in a car-sense will be truly meaningless – of course it will always have meaning in a sexual sense :)

Well, it really doesn’t matter as new hybrid takes about as much wasteful energy to make as these cars are likely to use in their whole entire lifespan. That said a smaller car or a deisel would probably be the greenest move to make. Still, until technology gets better (which I’m sure it will soon) GM spitting out SUVs really ISN’T worse than what anybody else is doing.

PS: Buying a good old calssic american gas guzzling monster is probably the greenest move to make since it’s already made and doing so would bring demand for new cars down.

Yup, and Toyota can offset their SUV sales of the FJ cruiser with sales of RAV4’s getting 26mpg for a 269hp V6 and 4WD. Or they can fall back on their car offerings with Corolla’s, Camry’s, Yaris and Avalons.

Hummer can offset their sales with ??? This my friend is why Hummer is attacked for being a gas guzzler brand and Toyota is not.

Broken Caddilac, I’m trying to say this as nice as possible, but, that argument is about as useless as a screen door on a submarine. Why would Hummer sell a RAV4 competitor?? Hummer is not in the business for that type of customer. Hummer is a niche brand. Their business plan does not include customers interested in that type of product. What is Land Rover falling back on? Nothing, because there is no need to. I see a Wrangler competitor coming out, a ballz out Z71 pickup variant, and MAYBE, a suburban based extended H2. GM has made some pretty foul mistakes in design, but I can garantee they will NEVER come out with a Hummer “Tracker”.

I will not convince you of anything you do not want to be convinced of. All I can tell you is that I have driven jeeps, Rubicons, CJs. I have filled them up. I have 2 friends who own one each, and who each owned previous models. They get horrible milage. I have nothing to gain by telling you this other than pointing out that there are many other vehicles that get similar gas milage to Hummers. A wrangler is only one of many.

Actually, BC, what would you think of say a Hummer ATV, or dirt bike? That would be cool as hell. Buy an H3, with an available option for trailered atv or dirt bike. Quite frankly, I am surprised that some of the domestics haven’t gotten into this business yet. Pontiac would be great for a street bike. Or a Caddilac partnership with Victory.

lanapat7, ditto on that AMG comment. Actually not just AMG but Mercedes has taken the other way and instead of focusing on performance gas efficient vehicles, they add bigger engines to their big models to compensate for the weight. Hardly an efficient and smart approach in my book. Thus my reason for never wanting to buy the current CLS, S Class, and AMG’s. That’s unfortunate cause they are better in the luxury dept than BMW.

A Hummer DirtBike or ATV package like the “Trek” package that VW used at one point would be kinda catchy. Don’t know if it would hold steady sales for a long period of time though.

My guess as to why something like a GM street bike wouldn’t happen would be an infrigment on GM’s own partner Suzuki… That and when people think American Motorcycles, they automatically think Davidson. That is a tough nut to crack if you’re trying to compete.

The ignorance shared in some of the comments above is just sad. The H3 is one of the best off road vehicles currently produced, it in no way disgraces the Hummer name. And for the record, since the intro of the H3 the Hummer brand has seen a healthy sales increase. As long as there is a market, GM would be stupid to not continue developing new Hummer products. And trying to play the environmental card as an argument holds little water. Even if they are just used on the street, the majority of Hummers sold are H3’s, a rather small vehicle compared to many on the market. As far as BrokenCadillac’s comments, he can be found in every GM thread spitting his venom, I have just learned to ignore him.

Here are the new Hummer models:
- H4-RS (The really small Hummer) will be built on the Chevy Cobalt platform, have the H3 grille superglued on the front, and comes standard with 13″ chrome spinners. M2 .50 cal turret is optional.
- H5-SGE (super-girly edition) is based on the Kappa platform Saturn Sky with a Monster Truck suspension. As it will target the female market, it will be well equiped with an electronic pink calendar and an evironmentally friendly tampon dispenser.
- The biggest news, however, will be the H6 Green Line, based on GMC’s secret new hyrid model, the Sierra – Club Edition. It will burn biomass, and comes with an optional hookup into your septic tank.

My friends, with your help and with the help of our friends at General Motors, we as Americans, most notably those who have stake in our crude oil stocks are able to thrive and prosper in the moments of dispair across the world. It is your duty as Americans to enjoy the fruits of our labor, to sample one of just 12 different full size, truck based SUV’s from GM. For those more endowed, may we suggest Hummer, for those elite individuals who choose more enriched means of living and thriving off this great planet Earth.

Understand this folks, it is not planet Earth that will pay the bills, do your work, provide for your families, make you satisfied, no. It is a resource, a tool in which we use to survive, not a thing of great importance, not a being of high value. Use it, embrace it and ignore those false consequences. This Earth owes us nothing, it is ripe for the taking so enjoy my friends, drink up for the sake of happiness and gluttony. Please keep us in mind during your journey. We await your business with open arms and you with open wallets.
