(Now with 17 official photos!) Ford at the Paris Motor Show will showcase the 2007 Ford Mondeo Concept. The vehicle is a concept in name, but will closely resemble the production version. Only a wagon version has been shown, but a sedan will also be offered. As anticipated, the new Mondeo borrows heavily from the 2005 Iosis concept. It’s not known if Ford has plans to bring the vehicle to North America. Typically, the Mondeo has been limited to Europe. The car will star alongside the Aston Martin DBS in the forthcoming “Casino Royale” James Bond film. Gallery after the jump…

For once I think a new Ford design looks good. British designers know how to made wagons look good. If it’s AWD and – oh, I can wish – powered by the Turbo I-5 from the Focus, it would be great!
But of course, Ford won’t be bringing this to the USA… that would only make perfect sense for a company that constantly doesn’t deliver their best products in their biggest market.

When Ford brought the Mondeo to the US as the Contour a few years back it didn’t do to well. I do agree that Ford has been doing good things with that Volvo I-5, and hope that the new Mondeo gets it.

Can they make one version of the Mondeo look like the concept, not just the nose of the concept grafted onto a wagon?

That’s because we had the Taurus already which was virtually identical to the consumer. The only difference is, in the UK they updated the Mondeo where here we let the Taurus rot in hell.

Not bad at all. Looks to me like they kept there word and are using some new design language. If fact, it looks like they grafted the entire front end of the Ford Iosis concept onto the car.

The thing is that when they brought the Mondeo over to the US and named it the Contour, they also changed a few things on the car which made it look worse than the european version. Same thing happened a couple years later with the Focus. It seems like the same car but from the start there were small details in the appearance which made the European version look better.

The Mondeo should be brought over exactly like this. Sell it as a Ford or Mercury, I don’t car which – just don’t change it! This would save the company much like the ‘86 Taurus did!

Why WHy WHY can’t they bring the design to fruition and sell it HERE in the USA with some decent driving capabilities? Is that really so tough? Is it?
I’m a fan of and really like the Edge, plus I generally like Ford as a company, but I don’t know of anything else seriously interesting coming our way. Hot concepts end up as Montegos or 500s. Hot cars that they sell elsewhere aren’t sold here, and then they bemoan a diminished reputation. Sometimes these car companies remind me of the guy who goes to an interview wearing tattered jeans and a T-shirt and then complains he never gets the job.

Looks promising, but it will be direct competition to the Edge. Ford has the ability of market products that compete amongst themselves- 500/Fusion; Explorer/Edge; Freestar/Freestyle.
It’s a toned down Audi Q7.

Wow! A Ford I would actually consider buying. That must mean there is no way in hell Ford NA would sell it here! I love the new Ford Europe design language used here and on the Focus ST, as well as Iosis concept.
Unfortuantely we get the retarded 3-giant chrome bar grille and bland styling in the USA. I guess Ford NA really has some sort of death wish. Maybe they have figured out a way to make some money by going out of business stateside?

This vehicle should be brought in as a Mercury. You could even still call it the Mondeo because Mercury likes to have their vehicle names starting with an M. Also Mercury doesn’t have a vehicle in the car based crossover segment, while both Ford and Lincoln do.

So it comes with a manual transmission in these promotionals. I hope this doesn’t indicate Ford’s resistance to importing it into the USA, (since nearly every promotional photograph for a US car shows an automatic).

Cooper, this vehicle should be brought in as a FORD. It looks very good as a Ford and it should probably keep with the good looks as they are. Rebadging it as a Mercury means that Mercury gets to Mountaineer it up with their white-on-gray-on-tan-with-chrome design schemes.

Hyperion, I get where your coming from but if Ford brought over it would probably incorporate the tri-bar grille and new headlight design as well. Which would require extensive revision to the front end.

Mondeo in the US? Notgonnahappen.com.
Can’t sell it as a Ford here, it would take them 5 years to engineer a chrome 3-bar grille. Also this ‘dynamo’ styling language is Euro Ford; in the USA we get ‘Bold American’ meaning straight lines and sheer surfaces.

orange and black the interior looks very slick apart from the seat colour

Why should they bring this over to the US when Ford can give us a Fusion Sportwagon with an engine that barely pushes the car out of it’s own way, marshmellowy suspension, and continued “Bold” design that’s still as bland as the Taurus:-/
This car in wagon form doesn’t quite do it for me, but I’d take a sedan with that interior and front end as long as they don’t muss up the rear.

This car could work as a Mercury. Take a look at GM’s plan: Chevy covers classic American, Saturn covers stylish European, Buick covers understated luxury, Cadillac covers blinged luxury, and Pontiac is morphing into the maker of rear-drive performance niche vehicles. Not sure where this puts Saab, but I hope they survive. Small Euro niche cars?
Ford could have Mercury cover the Euro cars, Ford stays with middle America (three bar grille), Lincoln covers classic American luxury, Volvo covers Euro luxury. Sell Jag, LR, and Aston Martin back to Nasser. Now what to do with Rover?

golf4me.. you made my point. If Ford is in such dire financial straits, why did they bother to spend so much money to engineer an all-new car that looks almost exactly like their own Mazda6 wagon? And on a completely different but almost identically-sized platform. If Ford could synergize all their resources and create a common platform for the 6, Fusion and Mondeo they would save a MINT — and then do the same for their next worldwide Focus/3/C30/S40/V50, and their RWD Aussie Falcon/US Town Car/Crown Vic..
