More on the 2008 Audi A4

01/27/2006, 9:39 AM

German automotive website Car Order is reporting that Audi will launch a new A4 at the end of 2007 based on the Roadjet Concept shown in Detroit earlier this month. According to the report, the new A4 will have significantly shortened front overhang, with the engine placed further back than before. This is certain to help alleviate the A4’s tendency to understeer at the limit. The all-wheel-drive split is also expected to put an increased emphasis on the rear wheels. Recently, the U.K.’s AutoExpress said the production A4 would look very similar to the Roadjet Concept. There has been some debate, however, over the suggestion that the new A4 would be as large as the Roadjet — which would make it significantly larger than the BMW 3-Series. This, week, Automobile magazine said the Roadjet might be the basis for a large Euro wagon, and possibly the Q5 crossover. We can only assume, based on all of the above, that the Roadjet will be the design basis for the new A4, and the dimensional basis for the Q5.
