One opinion is that you should really focus on what you do best. Porsche should stick to sports cars; VW is the people's car, etc... But in the interest of making money, many manufactures want a slice of the pie in each market; like Mercedes, A-Class to the Maybach. Ferrari is no exception. Yes, they have a passion for machines, but they also have stakeholders.

In one of my rags, it had been mentioned that Ferrari will only increase the number of cars they make for new markets: China, Russia, etc... that way they can increase their profitability without 'overexposing' themselves.
My gut says the Dino is mere gossip.

Carnut, EXACTLY!!

Otherwise, what's next? Rolls Royce to develop an "entry level" model to compete against the Mercedes S Class? They'll call it the Brass Sereph. No, that will never happen because that is what Bentley is for.

Ferrari should let Maserati and Alfa Romeo tend to the lower segment of the market. What is the use of the 2 other brands to the Fiat Group if they produce cars that overlap each other? Instead of wasting money and time on this senseless parody, they should get Fiat's other troubled brand Lancia the cars that the name deserve. Maybe develop Lancia into an Italian Lexus would not be that bad.

This is a moot point, even if they price at low $200K there will still be a waiting list for Ferraris. There are more rich people in the world by the year. There's always a waiting list for any new Ferraris. The fact that many of you here can't afford it doesn't mean the international market demand is low. So why bother making cheaper model... doesn't make much business sense to me.

Yeah man. At night. You think I just sit around all damn day? I have a job, stocks.... and you can go ahead and make is some kind of personal thing, but the fact is you were wrong, you said a lot of stupid shit, and I made that all very clear-- which is why you didn't bother responding to anything except the personal bullshit. You wanna go ahead and be an adult about it and respond to the comments about cars? Fine. But cut the jive shit.

Another Ferrari I cannot afford.

I think the real competition is a used, early 80's 308GTS or 328GTS.

LOL! Something tells me we are not talking about the same clubs if you are only making $400 a night. That's decent money bud, but even if you made that 365 days a year and never paid a dime to Uncle Sam, you still wouldn't have enough for even a salesman to acknowledge you were on the dealer lot. The club you are playing in is called a Porsche. And the last time I checked myself, I looked pretty good ;)

There's not much more I can say for you to understand my point other than " I like Ferraris that I can afford more easily. " is the exact reason they won't build one in that price range.

at 400hp at least it will have some performance anyway unlike the Boxter which has NONE for the money. The Z06 will still out perform it in everyway imaginable except for the prancing horse on the hood, which I guess in this case is what you are REALLY buying, the logo, just like the boxter only a bit faster.

i think the biggest problem with the issue is using the term "Dino" as it wasn't a Ferrari and was only produced to homologate Dino's 6V engine. As I said the last time this story was posted. A. Ferrari isn't a car manufacturer, the Scuderia is a Formula One manufacturer that funds itself by selling high performance, high technology cars. B. An Exige can outlap any car listed in this forum for $50k so why is it so far fetched? I wish everybody would stop worrying about Ferrari's image and exclusivity cuz it ain't going anywhere.

YourNameHere--- fair enough... to be honest, i'm not all up on my ferrari/porsche camparos, so I dont know exactly how they match up. I just know Ferrari wouldn't make a car that performs only as good as a boxter for 90k...

nowei-- good luck to you on that. let us know when you do!

To those against this--- Did you guys read the title? It says "Dino Revival." REVIVAL. That means this isn't a new idea folks. Ferrari has done Dinos in the past, and I hasn't hurt their brand image-- I can tell, because I'm listening to you all go on an on about the prestige of the Ferrari brand. Its not like its going to be a cheap car. So cut this "diluting the sacred image" crap. You're going to be happy when this car comes out. Its going to be badass, and it will compete with other badass cars that you guys go on about, like the Aston Martins in the same price range, etc.

And YourNameHere, do you really think that Ferrari would sell a car for $90 that performs like a Boxter? Thats a little ridiculous. While I'm sure people would buy it anyway, that WOULD dilute the brand image (but it would strengthen Porsche's) and I know they wont do it. Read the article---

The car you are complaining about:
Built on the platform from the upcoming replacement to the Maserati GT coupe
Carbon fiber and aluminum to keep weight low
400 horsepower V8
4,000 units annually

Does that not sound awesome?? Whatever. I dont care. I'LL buy one, and laugh at you as I drive by.

Its not like its going to be a cheap car. So cut this “diluting the sacred image” crap. You’re going to be happy when this car comes out. Its going to be badass, and it will compete with other badass cars that you guys go on about, like the Aston Martins in the same price range, etc.

And YourNameHere, do you really think that Ferrari would sell a car for $90 that performs like a Boxter? Thats a little ridiculous. While I’m sure people would buy it anyway, that WOULD dilute the brand image (but it would strengthen Porsche’s) and I know they wont do it. Read the article—

The car you are complaining about:
Built on the platform from the upcoming replacement to the Maserati GT coupe
Carbon fiber and aluminum to keep weight low
400 horsepower V8
4,000 units annually

Does that not sound awesome?? Whatever. I dont care. I’LL buy one, and laugh at you as I drive by.

I would rather see them get into manufacturing boats, than to produce an entry level car. Some things are sacred in my world.

There's a bigger gap today I think due in part because there is more wealth. Not only that, but the extravagance of the wealthy seemingly has no bounds. As an anti-entry level Ferrari guy, I do not dispute the fact that $130k Ferraris would sell. There would be a waiting list. But I think what would change is the demand for those $1million cars. I mean, the company holds their nose up high and they are clearly focused on the top .5% as their customers. When they start throwing bones to plebians, it opens the door for some other company to come and take the top spot.

I don't get this whole entry level thing, Ferraris used to be more affordable. Back in the day, the 308 and 328 was not the huge stretch frrom a 911 that is now. It was a gap but not like todays difference.

Nothing wrong with a $130K Ferrari.

I'm still screaming for a Ferrari Hot Hatch, and hoping someone from Ferrari reads these posts.

Oh well, some day I'll have my own supercar company. Then I'll make my own exclusive hot hatch and I'll show all of you.

you are paying for the badge. they can charge 50,000 more for a car any other brand would sell. they will make a car that performs like the Boxster and start it at 90k. Everyone will buy it because its a Ferrari. Also i think production numbers have alot more to do with brand image then price. I need to hands to count how many corvettes i see in a day, but i would be likely to see one ferrari every month.

I've always been very fond of the Dino, even if it constantly would brake down and even if it can't be considered being a Ferrari at all...An entry Ferrari doesn't really make sense to me, - when you buy a Ferrari you have entered.
