A classic tale of Motor City rivals — the Dodge Viper SRT 10 and Corvette Z06 battle it out in a recent Car and Driver comparison. In the report, columnist Larry Webster attempts to find out which of these bullies is the toughest on the playground. “The Viper was the surprise of the day at Grattan because it was far easier to drive and handle on the track than we had expected,” writes Webster. Yet, in every performance category except one, “the Vette won or tied the Viper.” The Z06 is a great bargain, and is easy to live with. The only downsides are that it has a chassis that “doesn’t know how to communicate and snap-oversteers at will.” It also has “inexcusably flimsy seats.” Meanwhile, for all its incredible power and fun, the Viper still tends to overheat, and “cooks occupants when it’s driven hard.”
