i purchased the new Z4M 3 months ago and can honestly say this new model is no way as good as the Z4M, it has no beef or muscle to it and certainly lacks the four rear tailpipes.

Declan, it isn’t a production model it’s a testbed, so it won’t go on sale.
Why is everyone saying it looks like a Lotus?! It shares nothing with a Lotus besides it’s a small lightweight rocket.
Anyways back on track this is a nice car. Amazing power to weight ratio, it’s like a bigger brother of the Lotus in terms of performance. This probably won’t directly compete with Lotus.
Whoever says that there are Ford lights on this car are dipsticks. They’re remotely similar to Ford Fusion or Focus headlights. They don’t look that bad on this car.
But again this is just a testbed of sorts. This most likely is not the production model, but damn good looking though if you ask me

BMW needs to build smaller cars. The 3-series is too big. The Z4 is too cramped. Take a look at the Mini and Audi A3. People like smaller cars.

In general I like this car, good proportions and a back-to-basics feel to it. I agree with a lot of posts: The rearlights look a bit cheesy, sort of Camry-like and this car doesn’t need bling show-off-doors, please!

This car wasn’t designed by Chris Bangle, but Adrian Van Hooydonk and is meant for the european market?

Am I the only one who thinks this might be some kind of a Lotus competitor? After all, it has everything that makes Lotus what it is. Small, lighter than a bag of tea, very good hp/weight ratio and superb handling.

Hmm…interesting. I agree with the others that the rear-end does not fit with the car (it looks like a ’99 Camry, FUGLY), but other than that, it’s pretty nice.

I like it, nice and aggresive. Its lean profile works with the sharp lines and futureistic look. I think that it will be great with the Z4M/M3 engine

Looks like a ford Fusion from the front and a Honda Prelude from the rear. Quite ugly! Atleast you won’t have to look at it too long as it appears to be fairly quick.

Actually, the gull-wing Mercs are beautiful but not that practical. These scissor doors are nice too but a lot of people are converting their cars to this type of opening because it is a lot easier to do than a true gull-wing.

Yes… very nice front and rear clips. Appears a little too “squished” from side profile, however.

looks nice but i wouldnt take this over a v8 vantage even if i was crazy. it looks nice but not good enough to be a supercar. it could be a z4 precedor but thats it. also the grill has to be a bit bigger and the back has to change a bit.

I like they left out all the “flame surfacing” crap. Bangle and his “flaming”…he is a flaming…nevermind. No more vertical line behind the front wheel. Nice. I know it’s not a vision of any production car, but if there is a GOD, the next Z4 will look more similar to this than the current one.

The Z29 of BMW is a pure prototype with optical parallels to the Z4 coupé – however zero of chance on later series fabrication. In the easy building-coupé, new materials are used, that take in later also into the series.

This prototype was built by BMW Technik – a part of BMW R&D department – for testing lightweight solutions. As seen on the blue-print the front of body structure is made from alu alloy (grey), and the rest from carbon fibre (blue).

The car will never make into production since it is just a working prototype and therfore its design is irrelevant.

Btw, “Zxx” cars have been Technik’s prototypes for a long times.

Regarding the alu-CF ody structure: the solution is not ready yet for production since the structure is still unstable and did not pass crash tests, but BMW engineers are working on the problem.

So sometimes in the not so distant future … Maybe even in the new Z8: expect some CF body structure parts.
