I don't know why they couldn't offer something they already make in Europe, but I can't think of another maker that would have supply issues. GM flat out disses diesels. The new common rail diesels are really amazing and the junk GM perpetrated on us in their Oldmobile diesels has a whole generation of Americans prejudiced against them. GM deserves to miss out on this one. Not having a fuel efficient, light duty diesel when gasoline hits $4 gallon could be a disaster for them or Toyota, or Ford, or Dodge, Etc...Heck, it's a disaster at $3 gal. Ford currently has something like 300k units in stock and offering $4.5k incentives. Haven't heard anything from Cleveland Casting Plant other than 6.2L Hurricane, and 3.5L duratec so far.
