Ford hedged on being able to offer 250,000 hybrid cars by the end of the decade. I don't know why they couldn't offer something they already make in Europe, but I can't think of another maker that would have supply issues.

GM flat out disses diesels. They'll be last to have them when Americans suddenly realize they've missed out on two generations of diesel advancement. The new common rail diesels are really amazing and the junk GM perpetrated on us in their Oldmobile diesels has a whole generation of Americans prejudiced against them. GM deserves to miss out on this one.

Chrysler already offers a diesel SUV in the LIberty (I own one and get 29 mpg on the highway with ridiculous amounts of torque at my disposal, ideal for off road). The new Grand Cherokee will come with a Bluetec 3.0 Liter Mercedes diesel early 2007.

Honda has promised diesels for 2008 and makes some of the most advanced diesels on the planet already.

Anyone know if Nissan has a diesel ready for their new "Titan" pickup? Not having a fuel efficient, light duty diesel when gasoline hits $4 gallon could be a disaster for them or Toyota, or Ford, or Dodge, Etc...Heck, it's a disaster at $3 gal.

Ford currently has something like 300k units in stock and offering $4.5k incentives.

Haven't heard anything from Cleveland Casting Plant other than 6.2L Hurricane, and 3.5L duratec so far.

BTW #3 $43Billion wouldn't pay for another invasion. That amount would be a retainer for Halliburton to pump oil and supply fuel to an oil rich country ; )

#19: They sure do. Those Oldsmobile diesels in the mid-80s where absolutely state-of-the-art. How can you do any better?

The last thing we need on the road is a smelly Ford Focus. I'd much rather fill up with E85.

It must be Ford because its relations with another American diesel expert Navistar just went sour because of the numerous reported problems of its 6.0liter v-8 diesel engine co-engineered with Navistar. Ford maybe looking for a new partner to develop new diesels. But when it comes to diesel technology, the European makers are the best followed by GM's Isuzu. Maybe all full size trucks should have diesels, a gasoline hybrid makes so sense at all.

Step in the right direction. Over 50% of euro car sales are diesel.

If the U.S. were to switch over to diesel entirely, fuel consumption would drop by 30%, meaning that we would save $41,386,400,000, or thereabouts, annually on oil. Surely we can do something with $41 billion and change? Invade another country?

So trucks will get new Deisels? Not all that new of an idea. It seem like this has nothing to do with deisel cars, which is what more people would find useful, as they say "The engines will be used in vehicles under 8,500 pounds." And like #2 says, way to jump on it.
