Longtime consumer advocate and former presidential candidate Ralph Nader contends the auto industry has failed to push technology that could make vehicles safer, cleaner and more fuel efficient, reports the Detroit Free Press. Nader accuses the government of acting as a “consulting firm for U.S. automakers. He plans to open an office in Detroit to monitor the industry based there.

^^^ You obviously don’t know who this guy is and what he has done to the Automotive Industry.
Sit down and do yourself a favor: Do some research before you start yelling at other people who don’t agree with his views and do not want him to destroy everything that is pure about motor sport and cars in general.

I can’t even believe he got that many votes in 2000. Him running for president is like Geraldo running for president — it’s a joke all the same.

He killed the Corvair. I will never forgive him for that. Haha, it wasn’t that great. But I guess he’s oblivious to the progress that the auto industry has largely been making in all three areas that he’s concerned about.

“make vehicles safer, cleaner and more fuel efficient.
This is what he has been saying since 1966 when he wrote Unsafe at any speed. Ah.. Hey Ralph, get a clue we have made cars safer, cleaner and more fuel efficient since 1966 so quit living in the past.

Didn’t the Corvair get cut for safety? Whether he’s a dirtbag or not, 3 guys just said the corvair needed some improvements. Don’t swoop down on me like you did Zombie, it ain’t that serious. I know USA will be behind as long as we resist change. Remember the stories about Demming? We should have listened… Motorsporting is something I love also but if I could have a straight six direct injection, solenoid valvetrain, turbo charged with recirculation system, integrated motor assist + 2 more electric motors with ultra capacitors, I bet it would fly! The problem with hybrids is good power mgmt/storage. Sooner we get better cells, sooner we advance.

The only reason the domestic are advancing in technology is because they wait until the Japanese and the German to do it first. Then they’ll just ask for an increase in Tariff.

Its funny how people talk about making cars so much safer….I guess ABS, airbags, crumple zones, traction control and every other safety device in a car aren’t enough, and he doesn’t seem to be focusing on the one thing that really should be made safer….and that’s the DRIVER. How much can a vehicle be responsible for the errors (or sheer stupidity) of the actions of one thing that ultimately controls it? That being, the DRIVER.
Cars are safe enough. It’s drivers that need to be safer, more responsible, and held accountable for their actions.
So Mr. Nader….please die.
