The North American International Auto Show has released its October newsletter which reveals some of the new models to expect at January’s show. While it remains unclear if the automakers knew that the NAIAS would reveal models slated to be unveiled at the Detroit show, the newsletter does give a good insight of what to expect.
Ford
Ford will unveil a new small car concept vehicle for the U.S., based on the Verve concept shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show. While the Detroit concept will use the same platform as the Verve, it will have an all-new body. Also like the Verve concept, Ford says the concept will preview a new design theme for future compact cars.
Kia is planning to unveil its seven-passenger SUV which the automaker previewed earlier this year in a teaser image. Codenamed HM — the real name will be announced during the show — the SUV is based on the Mesa concept. The road-going version of the concept will be built in Korea and will debut for the 2009 model year.
Mazda will unveil a new concept car based on the Nagare design theme. Mazda claims the concept takes the Nagare design theme to the “most realistic level yet,” indicating a version of the show car could be headed for production.
Hyundai will unveil a production version of its highly anticipated Genesis sedan. Officials say the production version will be very similar to the concept shown last spring. The Genesis will represent Hyundai’s first rear-wheel drive and V8 offering in the U.S. Executives have also stated that the new sedan will start “well under $30,000.”
Mitsubishi will unveil two new models; one concept and one production vehicle. Mitsubishi failed to give details on either model, but said it would release more information in December.
Suzuki will show a new global concept that will make its debut later this month at the Tokyo Motor Show. No other details were given, although the car is believed to be a variation of the Kizashi concept.
Subaru is planning a global debut but failed to release any details.
Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz will hold the worldwide debut of an unspecified new model, most likely the GLK SUV.

That Ford pic really shows the Austin Martin influence. Not a smart move. Wouldn’t want to associate Austin Martins with Fords, it will hurt sales.

I dig the verve. That burgandy color may make it a “chick car.” Nothing a coat of black paint can’t fix.

Ford, don’t screw up, do the Verve so that people actually WANT to buy it.
Don’t screw up.

What about GM and Toyota? Those are the two I’m not interested in and all they seen to have posted here is a list of second-tier carmakers (yes Ford, that is you too). Cool but I want to hear about those new Theta’s and the Traverse and the new Corolla or something. The Genesis is the only thing that interests me here (and maybe Ford’s small car — they better get that one right).
