Volkswagen’s redesigned 2012 Beetle is officially hitting dealerships nationwide today. VW is celebrating the launch with a number of special events around the country.

Although somewhat of a niche vehicle, VW is expecting the Beetle’s redesign to appeal to a wider audience. VW’s sales have recently been fueled by the early success of its new Jetta and Passat models, with the German automaker hopeful some of that momentum will rub off on the new Beetle.

“The 2012 Beetle is an American icon that has been redesigned to fulfill the needs of the modern driver, while remaining true to its vintage characteristics. It is fully-customizable and is our sportiest, most fuel-efficient Beetle yet,” Jonathan Browning, president and CEO, Volkswagen of America, Inc., said. “We are very proud to present a new generation of Beetle owners with a vehicle that is built with no-compromise German engineering, is fun to drive, and will no doubt spark a sense of nostalgia and community that only the Beetle can evoke.”

The 2012 VW Beetle is available now with a starting price of $18,995. Those buyers looking to spice things up a bit will have to spend $23,395 to get a Beetle powered by VW’s hotter 2.0L turbo engine.
