Autobild has pinned down some new details regarding the next-generation Audi TT. In a new report, the German magazine says the car will debut in September 2006 with engines ranging from 170 to 330 horsepower. Audi hopes that kind of power, along with a devised appearance, will improve the TT’s perception among enthusiasts. The car will receive more aggressive headlamps, as well as Audi’s signature giant grille, but its overall — arguably iconic — shape will remain the same. But the silhouette, the proportions and many details will remain true to the original, the report says. While the current TT has four seats, that’s only true “on paper,” the article explains. In reality, the car has little to no rear legroom. That will change with the update, as the TT gains a longer wheelbase and more compact mechanical components in the convertible version. The car will feature a new MMI central control system accessible via a large screen in the dash. The report seems to suggest the TT will receive Audi latest dual-clutch manual/automatic transmission. It’s unclear if Audi plans to show design concept for the new TT coupe and roadster before their official introduction. (See original report in German).
