The Audi A5 slots between the A4 and A6 sedans as the German automaker's first full-size coupe since the 100. Considerably larger than the TT coupe, the A5 is marketed as a true four-seater.
With classic "look at me" coupe proportions and an aggressive face, the A5 continues Audi's departure from the brand's outgoing design language, which was elegant yet decidedly understated. Those seeking an even more eye-catching look should check out the high-performance S5 as well as the A5 Convertible.
For the latest model year, the A5 comes with just one engine option: a 211 horsepower 2.0-liter DOHC engine with FSI direct-injection and a turbocharger, ditching the previous generations premium 265 hp 3.2-liter V6 with FSI direct-injection.
The A5, like the A4 line, now exclusively uses the 2.0T engine, but in this instance comes with either a six-speed manual transmission that will return 21 city, 31 highway miles per gallon and sprint from zero-to-60 in 6.4 seconds.
Or, one can opt for the Tiptronic automatic transmission and achieve 21 city and just 29 highway mpg, with a slightly slower acceleration time of 6.7 seconds.
All-wheel-drive is standard across the board. Audi promises razor-sharp handling thanks to an engine placement behind the front wheels, resulting in better weight distribution than any existing Audi, aside from the mid-engine R8.
