The A5 is the stylish coupe companion to Audi's compact A4 luxury sedan. Also available in performance focused S5 and RS5 models and drop-top A5 Cabriolet form, its strengths include a swanky interior, composed handling and the four seasons capability of quattro all-wheel-drive.
For the latest model year, the A5 gains three-zone climate control, xenon plus lighting and LED taillights as standard equipment.
With classic "look at me" coupe proportions and an aggressive face, the A5 continues Audi's departure from the brand's outgoing design language, which was elegant yet decidedly understated. Audi recently updated the A5 with sleeker headlights, a new grille, a more aggressive lower front fascia and restyled taillights.
Inside, the A5 upholds Audi's reputation for high-quality cabins with a sleek dashboard, plenty of soft-touch materials and user-friendly controls. Available features include Audi's MMI infotainment system and Audi Connect, which brings in-car internet connectivity and industry-first Google Earth integration - complete with panoramic views and high-resolution 3D satellite and aerial imagery.
The A5 is available with a single engine: a turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter turbo with 220 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission, the engine returns 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway while also helping the car accelerate from zero-to-60 mph in 6.4 seconds. An optional eight-speed automatic transmission shaves 0.2 seconds from the sprint but reduces mileage to 20/30 mpg.
All-wheel-drive is standard across the board. The A5 boasts responsive handling thanks to an engine placement behind the front wheels, resulting in better weight distribution than any existing Audi (aside from the mid-engine R8).
Standard and Optional Features
The A5 can be had in Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige trim levels.
The Premium trim comes standard with leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control, a ten-speaker AM/FM/CD/SiriusXM sound system, heated headlamp washers, LED turnsignals, fog lights, Bluetooth connectivity, a Homelink garage door opener, Audi music interface and a driver info system. Three-zone climate control, xenon plus lighting and LED taillights are newly standard.
The Premium Plus model adds heated front seats, memory functionality for the front seats, LED taillights, a power liftgate, three-zome automatic climate control and power-folding exterior mirrors. The S-Line exterior appearance treatment is newly standard.
The top-spec Prestige trim brings a navigation system with the aforementioned Audi Connect, a 14-speaker, 505-watt Bang & Olufsen sound system with HD radio technology, a rearview parking assist camera, Audi side assist, keyless start and a color driver information system.
Highlights from the options list include sport seats, adaptive cruise control, steering wheel-mounted shift paddles (for the automatic gearbox) and Audi Drive Select, which offers a variety of different suspension, steering, transmission and engine calibrations.
A Black Optic package includes black exterior touches and 19-inch Titanium Rotor-design wheels.
All A5 models come standard with dual front, front side, front knee and curtain airbags in addition to traction and stability control systems and a tire-pressure monitoring system.
Newly optional on Prestige-trim models is Audi side assist, which monitors blind spots and fast-approaching vehicles.
