Hackett ensuring Ford doesn't get caught off-guard

Ford CEO Jim Hackett is looking ahead to ensure the company doesn't get caught off-guard. He's notably keeping an eye on companies from outside the automotive world like Apple and Google. "Apple is not going to bring the Apple car to the Detroit auto show. They're going to come at us in a way we didn't expect, and I think I know how they're going to do that, too."

Jeep Renegade getting bigger infotainment screen

Jeep's refreshed Renegade will receive a bigger infotainment screen. It will also get minor visual tweaks, though the changes will be evolutionary at best. Look for the 2019 Jeep Renegade to make its debut in the coming months -- possibly at the New York Auto Show.

Hackett almost declined Ford CEO job

Recently-appointed Ford CEO Jim Hackett almost declined the job, he revealed. The 62-year old was semi-retired and living comfortably when his friend Bill Ford offered him the job. He accepted after his wife and kids told him he'd regret saying no.

Lamborghini Aventador replacement getting V12-electric powertrain

Lamborghini has all but confirmed it's developing a V12-electric hybrid drivetrain to power the Aventador's replacement. "With the new Aventador we must decide what will be the future of the super sports car in terms of electric contribution. What way to manage the weight coming from electrification, and to be able to guarantee every way to have the DNA of a super sports car," R&D boss Maurizio Reggiani told Motor Authority.

Stirling Moss retires from public life

Stirling Moss has retired from public life at 88-years old. "The indefatigable man will finally retire, so that he and my mother can have some much deserved rest and spend more time with each other and the rest of the family," his son wrote on his official website.

Ford: F1 is still too expensive

Ford is open to racing in Formula 1, but it won't commit to a comeback until costs come down. The brand explains Formula 1 is more attractive than Formula E due to the technology used. "Hybrid power will be relevant for a long time for Ford so I'd never say never to Formula 1, especially if it introduces budgets," Ford Motorsport boss Mark Rushbrook said.

Marchionne: Don't wait for a next-gen Dakota

Ram quit building the Dakota, its entry-level pickup truck, in 2010. Today, a replacement would fall in the same segment as the Chevrolet Colorado and the Ford Ranger. It's not happening, according to FCA boss Sergio Marchionne. "We have not found an economic way to get this done," he explained.

Chevrolet Camaro getting seven-speed manual?

It looks like the Chevrolet Camaro is getting the Corvette's seven-speed manual transmission. Only models equipped with the 6.2-liter V8 will be available with the seven-speed. And, oddly, the six-speed manual will remain available.

Ferrari 488 GTO getting 700-hp V8

Leaked documents suggest the upcoming Ferrari 488 GTO will get a 700-horsepower V8 engine. It's 10-percent lighter than the eight-cylinder engine used in the 488 GTB. The car will also come with aluminum floors, a stripped-down interior without a glove box, and carbon fiber rims. We could see the GTO make its debut in Geneva.

Volkswagen responds to Hyundai's GTI shot

Hyundai recently said the i30 N is more fun than a Volkswagen GTI. The Wolfsburg-based firm replied and, unsurprisingly, it thinks it builds the better product8. "Extraordinary claims are being made for supposed rivals that are not yet on sale. While any skunkworks can turn out a track day special, the expertise and experience required to engineer a GTI or an R - cars that also excel in the real world — is rather more hard won," Michael Bartsch, Volkswagen's managing director, told Motoring.
