The GMC Savana is full-size van that is available as the Savana Cargo work truck and the Savana Passenger, which features windows and seating for as many as 15 people.

The Savana Passenger is available in light duty half-ton, three-quarter-ton and one-ton weight classes, in regular (135-inch) and long wheelbase (155-inch). Depending on the duty rating of the van, engines choices include gasoline V8s displacing 4.8-, 5.3- or 6.0-liters as well as a 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8.

The Savana Passenger 1500 light-duty models come standard with a 310 horsepower, 334 lb-ft of torque V8, along with a four-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain combo is good for 13 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway.

Stepping up to the 3/4-ton 2500 van will switch to a standard 4.8-liter V8 with 280 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque horsepower, which returns 11/17 mpg while an optional 6.0-liter V8 provides 324 horsepower and 373 lb-ft of torque along with 11/16 mpg. Both engines pair with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 6.0-liter engine gains new tech for the latest model year with a fast-idle option, making it easier to run a host of accessories while idling at a worksite.

For the latest model year, a number of changes, enhancements and new features improve the Savana's capability and give it greater digital connectivity.

From a capability standpoint, the addition of the 6.6-liter Duramax diesel to the 3500 passenger model is likely the most significant change. The Duramax brings 260 horsepower and 525 lb-ft of torque to the table, allowing long-wheelbase models to boast a GVWR of 9,900 pounds, a GCWR of 17,000 pounds and towing rating of 9,700 pounds. A six-speed automatic transmission comes standard with the diesel. The Savanna 3500's weight means the EPA classifies it as a heavy truck, a category in which automakers are not required to provide fuel economy data.

Other changes across the model line includes standard StabiliTrak on all models, optional G80 locking differential, OnStar Generation 9.0 (with six-month Directions & Connections plan) and XM Satellite Radio and Bluetooth are offered with the available digital radio.

There is also available (dealer-installed) Autonet Mobile WiFi Internet to aid business users for worksite connectivity.

Savana is equipped with head curtain side air bags on all passenger vans, as well as Enhanced Technology Glass (ETG) for superior occupant retention on 12- and 15-passenger models.

Other safety tech includes four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Hydroboost, driver and front passenger air bags and daytime running lamps.
