The Jaguar XK is a stylish 2+2 coupe designed to offer a mix of luxury and performance. Most easily classified as a grand tourer, the XK is a comfortable long-haul cruiser that can play on the back roads. It is also available as the the XK Convertible.
Power comes from a 5.0-liter V8 providing 385 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 380 pound-feet of torque at 3500 rpm. The motor pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission that is controlled through Jaguar's unique rotary-style shift knob. This powertrain combo is good zero-to-60 mph sprints of about five seconds flat and returns fuel economy of 16/24 mpg.
Aiding performance and efficiency is a lightweight all-aluminium monocoque chassis that helps trim curb weight to around 3,800 pounds, which is far less than many of the car's competitors.
If the XK looks similar to recent Aston Martins, it's no accident. It was designed by Ian Callum, who penned the Aston Martin DB7 and V12 Vanquish when both brands were under control of Ford Motor Company.
Inside, the XK features a simple but elegant cabin design along with the highest quality leather and wood (aluminum trim is optional) and all of the entertainment and convenience devices one could wish for in a luxury coupe.
Standard features include a navigation system with a seven-inch LCD touch screen, a 525-watt, 14-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth smartphone connectivity, a rear parking camera and more.
Standard safety features include dual front and side airbags, traction and stability control systems and electronic brake-force distribution.
Key Competitors
Rivals to the XK include grand tourers such as the BMW 640i and the Mercedes-Benz CL 550 as well as sportier rides like the Porsche 911 Carrera.
