Takata to file for bankruptcy Monday

Beleaguered airbag supplier Takata will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Monday, sources have told Reuters. Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group will supply the loan for the company's restructuring, which should end with an acquisition by U.S.-based Key Safety Systems, Inc., the wire service reports. Takata's rupturing airbags have been linked to at least 150 injuries and more than a dozen deaths worldwide and are were installed in millions of vehicles sold as far back as 2004.   http://reut.rs/2sYRlVv

Peugeot returns to pickup market

Paris-based Peugeot is returning to the pickup truck segment in one of the most unimpressive ways imaginable. The company has turned to Chinese partner Dongfeng to sell a re-badged version of the Rich, which is a 20-year old Nissan Navara with a new face. Named Pick Up, the model is aimed at the African market.

Superformance MkIII sets Cobra speed record

A Superformance MkIII set a new speed record for the Shelby Cobra. Owned by Ted Taormina, the model recently hit 201 mph on an airport runway. The previous record of 198 mph was set by Dick Smith in 1967.

Aston Martin recalls Vantage over gearbox issue

Aston Martin has issued a recall that affects 1,658 examples of the Vantage built from June 2010 through September 2013 and equipped with a Sportshift transmission. First Laguna Seca race winner to headline Rolex Monterey reunion

The first car ever to win a race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, a 1956 Ferrari 500 Testa Rossa piloted by Pete Lovely, will be front-and-center at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion this August. The reunion marks the 60th anniversary of the staple California road racing circuit. Lovely campaigned the Ferrari in historic races at the venue for many years before passing in 2011 at the age of 85.
