The Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante can be thought of as the open-air equivalent of the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera. As such, the Performante is a lighter, quicker and more focused variant of the “standard” Spyder.
This topless exotic bull weighs in at 140 lbs lighter than the normal model thanks largely to a healthy dose of carbon fiber inside and out. Altogether, carbon-fiber components make up around 40 percent of the weight savings. In the interior, the center tunnel cover, the door panels and the surround of the e-gear automated manual transmission lever are all made from carbon fiber.
Just like the rest of the cockpit, the sports seats are clad in lightweight Alcantara instead of leather. However, weight reduction at Lamborghini certainly does not mean sacrifice – the Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante still comes with air conditioning and electric windows as standard. The bodyshell is made from aluminum, with cast node elements and extruded profile forming an extremely stiff framework into which the aluminum panels are integrated. The spaceframe structure is extremely impact-resistant and forms the basis for car’s precise handling.
Also of note, the front fascia has been modified from the normal car with a unique and more aggressive look. A body-colored grille, special body stripes and a host of visible carbon-fiber components round out the exterior changes.
In the Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante, LP stands for “Longitudinale Posteriore” and refers to the orientation of the V10 engine – which is mounted longitudinally behind the driver, just like every Lamborghini engine. The number 570 refers to the maximum power output in horsepower, available at 8,000 rpm. The torque curve peaks at 398 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm. The increase of 10 horsepower over the standard model is the result of the new dedicated engine management strategy.
The weight savings and horsepower make for an awfully quick convertible: Lamborghini claims that the zero-to-60 mph sprint is achieved in just 3.9 seconds, while the top speed is 201 mph.
The Performante comes with a choice of Lamborghini’s six-speed, automated-clutch “e-gear” transmission or a gated row-your-own gearbox, also with six speeds.
