The Maserati Quattroporte S is a full-size luxury sedan that provides a more engaging driving experience than most other rides in its class. While its getting on in years and has fallen behind a bit in terms of power and features, it's still an enticing option thanks to boatloads of Italian charm and the wail of a Ferrari-engineered V8.
Knowing that the buyers of the Quattroporte S would settle for nothing but the best, Maserati tapped Ferrari to design and build the 4.7-liter V8 power plant. Pushing 425 horsepower and 361 pound-feet of torque, the motor pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission. The duo enables the Quattroporte S to have a top speed of 174 mph and zero-to-60 mph time of just 5.3 seconds.
Fuel economy is rated at 11 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway.
Design and Features
With some of the greatest Italian engine manufacturing under the hood, it is only fitting the body of the Quattroporte line was designed by famed Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina.'
Inside, the driver is treated with wood grain trims and Poltrona Frau leather seats. The standard dual-zone climate control is a forgone conclusion compared to the state of the art Bose multimedia system. The sound system features a hard-drive based satellite navigation system, a CD player, an iPod connection, a 30GB hard disk for storing mp3 files, satellite radio, voice control, Bluetooth connection, and a USB/AUX-in connection that doubles as a USB reader. Making It Yours
The Quattroporte S has a huge color pallet available and it offers far more customization than just interior and exterior colors to choose from. The steering wheel, dashboard, seat stitching and piping, headliner, carpet color, and even brake calipers can all be custom-colored.
The Executive Pack is one of the only options available for the car. Notably, the seats will automatically heat, ventilate and massage their passengers. And the back seats gain independent climate control and rear sun shades.
To top it all off Maserati offers a European delivery program and factory tour for new owners. All Quattroporte's are backed by a 4 year / 50,000 mile warranty.
Occupant Safety
Besides a contingent of air bags, including front, side and side curtain units, the Quattroporte S is outfitted with traction and stability control systems in addition to ABS.
Key Competitors
The closest rivals to the Quattroporte S are the Jaguar XJ and, on the high end of the price spectrum, the Aston Martin Rapide; all three share an emphasis on unique, head-turning styling as well as stirring handling and performance. More conservative (though still speedy and well-designed) options exist in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the BMW 7-Series and the Audi A8.
