The Porsche Panamera Turbo S is the true king of the range in the Panamera family - unseating the Panamera Turbo as the range-topping model. To achieve that, Porsche upped the ante from the already massive 500 horsepower rating to an even more extreme 550 horsepower.

The addition of the Turbo S isn’t exactly surprising, given the sister 911-range already had a Turbo S model. In the Panamera Turbo S, the bi-turbo 4.8-liter V8 is good for a 550 horsepower and 555 lb-ft of torque. The 10 percent power bump over the 911 Turbo will surely help offset the added bulk of the four doors.

With the help of Launch Control, the newest Panamera can reach 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. The top track speed is 190 mph.

Standard driving-dynamic control systems abound on the Panamera Turbo S, including Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC)- an active anti-roll system that significantly reduces lateral body movement during corning, which enhances stability, handling and overall occupant comfort. There is also Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) which works to help ensure superior traction and higher-performance cornering by applying a variable torque split to the rear wheels in combination with an electronically controlled rear differential lock.

Also standard is Porsche’s advanced speed-sensitive Servotronic steering system, a sports exhaust system and the Sport Chrono Package Turbo that further tunes the engine and suspension at the touch of the “Sport Plus” button which adds 35 lb-ft of torque for a total of 590.

How did they do it?
Porsche says the power bumps are largely attributable to improved turbochargers with titanium-aluminum turbine wheels, as well as modified engine mapping in the computer. Porsche explains that the titanium-aluminum alloy reduces the weight of the compressor wheel in the turbo, and in turn reduces the energy required to spin the turbos, resulting in more airflow.

Of course Porsche didn’t just boost the power and call it a day, other features include new 20-inch Turbo II wheels with increased rear axle track width, side skirts from the Porsche Exclusive range and the adaptive extending four-way rear spoiler, painted to match the body.

Inside, Porsche applied a contrasting bi-color leather finish, standard. Porsche says that the new combination of black and cream is offered exclusively for the new Panamera Turbo S with agate grey/cream also being added as an exclusive combination.

The Panamera Turbo S comes equipped with eight airbags, including dual front, side-impact and curtain airbags. Knee airbags are integrated into the lower part of the instrument panel and hold back the lower body of the driver and front passenger in a head-on collision.
