Visually, the major difference between the ProMaster City and the Fiat with which it shares the bulk of its components with is a brand-specific front fascia that boasts Ram's trademarked crosshair radiator grille. It features sliding doors on both sides and user-friendly 60/40-split rear barn doors that can swing open at a 90-degree angle.
The ProMaster City packs room for two passengers in its standard configuration, though seating for five is available as an option. Both models leave behind their utilitarian roots by offering a car-inspired cockpit with a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, an easy-to-read instrument cluster made up of four analog gauges and numerous storage bins.
The ProMaster City can be ordered with Ram's Uconnect infotainment system. Uconnect integrates most of the ProMaster City's audio, navigation and climate control functions into one unit. A 5.0-inch touchscreen mounted on the dashboard is the central component of the system, but redundant buttons and knobs for climate and audio volume and tuning are also included.
Cargo capacity checks in at a generous 132 cubic feet with two occupants on board thanks in part to side panels that are nearly vertical. The vertical panels also make it easy for aftermarket upfitters to install shelves or storage cabinets in the cargo compartment.
The ProMaster City is exclusively offered with a 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder engine that generates 174 horsepower and 178 lb-ft. of torque. Also found under the hood of the Dodge Dart and the Jeep Cherokee, the four-banger sends power to the front wheels via a segment-exclusive nine-speed automatic transmission. It returns 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
The ProMaster City can haul up to 1,883 pounds when properly configured, and it can tow up to 2,000 pounds when fitted with the optional tow package.
Standard and Optional Equipment
Each version of the ProMaster City is offered in two trim levels: base and SLT.
Base models come standard with a tire repair kit in lieu of a spare, black bumpers, halogen headlights, 16-inch steel wheels with center caps, A/C, power locks, cloth upholstery, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, power windows, remote keyless entry and a four-speaker AM/FM stereo with a USB port.
Stepping up to the Tradesman SLT Cargo Van trim adds body-colored bumpers, mudflaps, power mirrors, 16-inch steel wheels with full plastic hubcaps, bucket seats upholstered in cloth, cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, tinted windows and a 5.0-inch touch screen that runs Ram's Uconnect infotainment system.
The list of options includes additional paint colors, navigation, a rear window defroster/wiper, a rear-view camera, a trailer hitch and a number of cargo partitions. Buyers can also select the Light and Wheels package, which adds front fog lights and 16-inch alloys, and the Popular Equipment Group, which bundles heated front seats, 2nd row power windows and a six-speaker stereo.
The ProMaster City features front, side, side curtain and knee airbags, stability control, traction control, hill start assist, trailer-sway damping, electronic roll control and a tire pressure monitoring system.
