Rolls-Royce has unveiled its most powerful model ever, the Wraith coupe, at the Geneva Motor Show.

Based on the Rolls-Royce Ghost, the Wraith ditches the sedan's two rear doors and adds a sloping fast-back roofline, giving the car a sense of motion even when it is standing still. The Wraith is also lower and wider than its Ghost counterpart.

Power for the Wraith is provided by a twin-turbocharged 6.6L V12 developing 624 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Shifting via an eight-speed automatic transmission, Rolls-Royce says the Wraith can accelerate from 0-60 in just 4.4 seconds.

But performance has always played second fiddle to all-out luxury at Rolls-Royce, and the Wraith upholds that tradition. Open the Wraith's coach doors and you'll be greeting by acres of genuine wood and only the finest leather hides. Rolls-Royces even included its Starlight Headliner in the Wraith, a feature that was previously only available in the range-topping Phantom.

In addition to those old world amenities, Rolls-Royce has also packed the Wraith a number of modern technologies. The Wraith uses a unique Satellite Aided Transmission that uses the car's navigation system to determine the road ahead and automatically selects the best gear for the terrain. Of course luxuries like a head-up display, adaptive headlights and voice activation are part of the Wraith's package.

“Today we launch the ultimate gentlemen’s gran turismo, a car that embodies the spirit of Charles Stewart Rolls,” said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. “The most powerful Rolls-Royce in history, Wraith promises the sense of adventure and speed that drove our founding forefather. But of course, Wraith’s starting point is luxury, refinement and quality, traits that remain as important to Rolls-Royce customers today as they were more than a century ago.”

Rolls-Royce will begin European deliveries of the Wraith – which will carry a price tag of €245,000 ($319,500) – later this year.
