The SX4 SportBack is Suzuki's five-door version of its popular SX4 small car, intended to be a bit more utilitarian than its sedan counterpart, and more fun than the crossover variant.

The SX4 SportBack is powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine putting out 150 horsepower with 140 lb-ft of torque with the manual transmission(148 horsepower with the CVT), sufficient to take the car to sixty mph in under ten seconds.

The SportBack comes standard in front-wheel drive trim, and has available all-wheel drive.

A manual six-speed transmission is standard, which yields 22 city and 30 highway miles per gallon, with an optional continuously variable transmission (CVT) that replaced the outgoing four-speed automatic returning 23 city and 30 highway mpg.

The SX4 SportBack is designed to provide interior accommodations for five, with ample front and rear legroom and headroom. Wide door openings allow easy entry.

Suzuki says the SportBack is tuned for a sporty ride, thanks to lower ride height, performance shocks and a standard stabilizer bar in the front and rear.

Standard features on the SX4 SportBack SE include power windows, locks and mirrors; leather steering wheel cover, fog lights, an upgraded audio system, aero body trim, cruise control, air conditioning, AM/FM/CD/MP3 XM Satellite Radio-ready audio system, tilt steering wheel, 17-inch alloy wheels and trip computer.

The SX4 SportBack can be equipped with a Technology package featuring an integrated navigation system (with available advanced features including traffic, fuel prices and airline arrival/departure information) and Bluetooth connectivity.

On the safety front, the SX4 is fitted with eight air bags, a tire pressure monitor and LATCH child-seat anchors. Also standard are anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, traction and anti-skid control.

Key competitors
The Suzuki SX4 Sportback is a fairly unique offering, foregoing traditional styling and packaging for a fun and utilitarian form - not all that unlike that of the Nissan Juke crossover.
