Volvo will use the upcoming Paris Motor Show to introduce its latest V40 R-Design. Although not the full-fledged Polestar model some had been expecting, the V40 R-Design promises more performance than the standard car.

The exterior design of the V40 R-Design is highlighted by a unique “silk-metal framed high-gloss grille” and a reshaped front bumper with integrated daytime running lights. The rear of the V40 R-Design sports an “ironstone” rear diffuser, more silk-metal accents and dual exhaust outlets.

The R-Design comes standard with 17-inch five-spoke diamond-cut wheels, although 18-inchers will be on offer.

All V40 R-Design models ride on Volvo's Dynamic chassis, but a Sport Chassis will also be available. The Sport chassis uses unique springs and shocks, lowering the car by 10mm.

The V40 R-Design will be available with a wide range of engines, from Volvo's efficient D2 diesel with 115 horsepower all the way up to the high-performance T5 turbo with 254 horsepower.

Inside the V40 R-Design is fitted with embossed R-Design leather/T-Tec upholstery, TFT instrument display, sports steering wheel, sports pedals and unique aluminum inlays.

"The V40 R-Design is designed around the performance minded individual with a passion for those things that add extra spice to life. The meticulous attention to detail covers the expressive design as well as the agile, precise performance," said Lex Kerssemakers, Senior Vice President Product Strategy & Vehicle Line Management at Volvo Car Corporation.

The V40 R-Design is scheduled to hit European dealerships in January. Volvo will announce pricing for the V40 R-Design in October.
