Being a fan of the first generation Camaros, I can only hope that GM does NOT revive the Camaro name. GM has not had an eye-catching design in decades (they are more like gut-wretching). All the old nameplates are a disgrace to their former selves including Corvette (fast but ugly), Monte Carlo (did they actually believe you could drop a 300+ hp engine in a FWD car and call it a sports car?) and Impala (should be self-explanatory). Please GM, let the Camaro rest in peace and develop a new name, perhaps the "NonChallenger" or perhaps the "Mule"? If you must revive the Camaro moniker in an attempt to sell something, at least study the Mustang, or preferably the Challenger, for clues on how it should be done.

Do you notice that the new Camaro resembles a 2003-2004 Cavalier? Coincidence? I think not. Cheap designing? Hell yes.

its all a load of B.S. i love alot of gm cars and the camaro is my favorite but i would bet money that they will never make another camaro or anything close to those pics they have out. Remember the SS concept that came out the same time as the SSR truck? they kept saying "its just a year away" and now its practicaly forgotten.

Think of it, by 2010 us Americans will be used to $4.00+ per gallon gas prices, if not higher. Perfect time to release a big v8 muscle car... They'll sell a ton of em... ha!

GM's Ed Welburn said, "The Camaro isn't a typical car - I think we could move very quickly."
In a related story, GM announces a new hybrid power source - the tens of thousands of dead GM employees spinning in their graves.

In response to comment #6:

You would be correct if GM had ever proven they had the ability to get anything (except Solstice) done quickly... Everyone from the Koreans to the Japanese boast about their ability to go from concept to production in about 24-28 months, if not sooner.

Nothing's changed. What kill GM and Ford and, to a lesser extent, Chrysler is that they benchmark current models in development and by the time they get them to market, their "moment" has passed them by.

Look at the Saturn Aura. It would have taken the market by storm if it was on the market when released as a concept. Now, there's a new Camry on the market, Fusion, Sonata, etc and the Aura is what, still a year away from being on the lots?? It'll be "average" by then.

If they really can't do the Camaro by 2010, I'd say don't bother. The whole new muscle car renaissance is happening *now* and I'm sure Dodge will beat them to the market by at least 2 years, since the Challenger is based on current hardware... Don't bother... No matter how good the car is when released, all the buzz will be about why it took so long...

In the financial condition that GM is in, they are correct to push the Camaro down the priority list rather than wasting effort to get a relatively low volume-and hence low profit-coupe out sooner. Their efforts need to be on making competitive high volume, high profit vehicles right now.

Now this is the GM that I know. Everything was looking great... but now its going to be at least a four-year wait to get your hands on one.

Lots of great ideas... but poor execution.

Realistically people, what do you think this car would cost on the showroom floor? And done properly, you know, not a cheap rattle trap.
