Infiniti drops QX70

Infiniti has confirmed the QX70 -- formerly known as the FX -- will not return for the 2018 model year. The company would rather focus on other crossovers and SUVs like the QX50. A successor won't arrive until 2021 at the earliest, according to Automotive News.   


Bugatti will go hybrid

Bugatti has confirmed the Chiron might be its last gasoline-only car. Its successor is still several years away, but it's almost certain to arrive with some form of electrification. It won't be a pure electric car, however.   


BMW to recall Euro 5-era diesels

BMW has announced it's voluntarily recalling every car equipped with a Euro 5-era diesel engine in Europe. Entirely voluntary, the campaign will draw upon "knowledge gained in the field over the last years" to make the engines cleaner. It affects cars registered between 2009 and 2014, though whether it extends to the United States is up in the air.   


Jaguar unleashes XJR575

Jaguar has sent the XJ to the gym to create the XJR575. It uses a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine that makes 575 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, which is enough for a 4.4-second zero-to-60 time. It also receives a full body kit, specific rims, and "575" emblems.   


BMW celebrates 7's 50th with limited-edition model

BMW is celebrating the 7 Series' 40th birthday with a limited-edition model named 40 Jahre. Limited to just 200 examples, it comes with the M Aerodynamics Package, 20-inch alloy wheels, and Shadow Line trim. Buyers can choose Petrol Mica or Frozen Silver.   


BMW denies cartel accusations

Responding to recent accusations, BMW stresses it didn't form a cartel with Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, and Mercedes-Benz to fix the price of diesel emissions treatment. The company also emphasizes none of its cars are equipped with an illegal defeat device.   


Classic FBI surveillance van listed on eBay

A 1989 Dodge Ram 350 van used by the FBI as a surveillance vehicle has come up on eBay. It's a one-owner vehicle with just 23,500 miles on the odometer. It's still fitted with late-1980s surveillance equipment including LCD screens, an intercom, recorders, tape players, three extra batteries, additional door locks, and even a toilet. Bidding currently stands at $15,900.   


Chevrolet Volt could morph into a crossover

The sedan segment is declining, and Chevrolet is increasingly worried about the Volt's future. Reuters has learned the company's plug-in hybrid model could morph into a crossover when it's replaced in about 2022.   


One-off Mercedes E-Class gains portal axles

A Mercedes-Benz engineer has turned the E-Class All-Terrain into a monster truck with portal axles. It's just a one-off model for the time being, but insiders say it could spawn a limited-edition model in the next few months.


UAW worried about slumping sedan sales

The United Auto Workers (UAW) union is worried about the impact the decline of sedans will have on jobs in the United States. "We are tracking it and we are addressing it," UAW president Dennis Williams told Reuters. He added he's in talks with General Motors to find a solution that would preserve as many jobs as possible.
