Saab will unveil a new coupe concept at the Geneva Motor Show later this month, but it’s not what most people are expecting. A recent published report cited by Leftlane suggested the coupe concept — now known as the Aero-X — would showcase an all-new design language from the Swedish marque. It was also reported that the car will be based on an entirely new platform. Today, AutoWeek Netherlands is reporting that the car will be a 400 horsepower grand tourer. The car is said to have similarities to the Aston Martin DB9 coupe. Apparently, the car will use a BioPower engine of some description.

This had better be a kick ass concept or its the beginning of the end for Saab.

Too bad it will probably be front wheel drive… so expect lots of wheelspin unless a power-robbing traction control system is employed (which will hinder acceleration). With anything over 250HP front wheel drive seems to be a waste, since the weight transfer shifts to the rear of the vehicle under hard acceleration, thereby reducing the traction of the drive wheels.

Too bad it will be based on a Malibu…I am afraid GM has destroyed Saab and will end up killing it all together.

Dave-o…read before you speak. In other posts, on a few different sites, the car will NOT be based on a Malibu, it will be on a COMPLETELY NEW PLATFORM, and last time i checked the Malibu isn’t a completely new platfrom. So get more info before you comment.
On a side note: I can’t wait to see what this car looks like, because it is a very important car for SAAB, lets hope they nail it.

Leopold,
That “X” in the name, if you follow Saab nomenclature, would mean AWD. As in 9-2x, 9-7x, 9x concept and 9-3x concept. The 400hp is therefore expected to be put to ground via AWD, likely sourced from Haldex, who did the AWD setup for the 9-3x.

Sorry I didn’t read other sites filled with rumor and speculation first. (sic) May be a completely new platform…but not unique to Saab. There is no way Saab/GM can afford that. So while it might not be based on the Mailbu, it will certanly be shared with other low rent GM products.
Sorry if you love Saab Chris, I used to as well, but GM is killing it.
