New Dodge Crossover set for 2008

07/31/2006, 8:20 AM

By admin

Dodge will get a new crossover to compete with the Ford Edge and Toyota Highlander for 2008, according to a published report. The model — known by the JC49 internal code — will be built in Mexico starting in late, reports Automotive News. Described by Chrysler insiders as a “new concept crossover,” the automaker hopes to differentiate the vehicle from regular crossovers. Pricing is expected to start around $20,000, with a volume target of 150,000 yearly. A Chrysler version — codenamed JZ49 — may also be built for the 2010 model year. The new crossovers will be based on the same platform as the 2007 Chrysler Sebring, and forthcoming Dodge Avenger.

If it isn’t, hold out for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which is supposed to have the bluetec in like 2007 or 2008 model year. Besides, the Jeep is a unit body itself, so it’s like a crossover that’s actually good at offroad.

Or you could just buy a new Lamba crossover and get it right the first time before wasting your money on a freakin Dodge. Everyone wants GM products anyways so Chrysler is just wasting their time here. They’ll be lucky to sell one of these with the Enclave, Outlook and Acadia sweeping the market

I’d rather have an Equinox or a Torrent, Chinese made engine or not. At least its a GM vehicle. I am sure everyone else agrees with me

laughable comment at best.
you would rather have a GM with an chinese built engine that is widely known to be troublesome than a 100% american built competitor from another american company?

I suppose ignorance is bliss.

Mike, GM number1-4ever, A non E mussssss-

While I don’t have the fundamentalist (i.e. trash talking attitude) that some of you seem to share, I’d like to point out a few things:

1. Mike says, “you would rather have a GM with an [sic] chinese built engine that is widely known to be troublesome than a 100% american built competitor from another american company?”

A not-even-too-careful examination of the text would indicate that the vehicle will be built in Mexico, and, in addition, DaimlerChrysler AG, of which the Chrysler Group is a subsidiary, is a German company. Chrysler Group, just like Mercedes Benz USA, is simply an American operating branch of DCX which is, again, incorporated in Germany.

2. A non E mussssss says, “Everyone wants GM products anyways…” A simple examination of sales figures over the last decade would show a consistent and steady decline of General Motors’ market share.

3. GM number1-4ever says “I’d rather have an Equinox or a Torrent…I am sure everyone else agrees with me.” This is an ad populum fallacy, in which you claim to be right because you believe it is the popular belief. In addition, the username “GM number1-4ever” is a blatant example of bias, further belittling whatever credibility existed before that fact is realized.

#9, well said. They are morons and always will be! GM is crap!

Anyways, im glad that Dodge and Chrysler are doing this new smaller crossovers thing. Looks like there will be fewer Pacificas on the road. Pacifica is way overweight with almost bad MPG and little pricey.

Except the platform on which it is based is one from Chrysler Groups flexible manufacturing line… and the platform’s assembly line is in the US, not mexico.

Little, if anything is known about this platform. Insiders are edcidedly tight lipped on this one. I would not beleive everything you read from the article.

Apparently the subtle nuances of the English language are lost on you. An examination of the text would indicate that it will be built in Mexico. That is entirely different that if I said, “The new Chrysler group crossover will be built in Mexico.” I said the text indicates so, not that I indicate so. The messenger is not wrong if he’s quoting material from 10 inches above the post on the same page.

Funny though, I thought I’d be done with these types of symantic arguments in 8th grade.

But you are right, new Sebring to be built in Sterling Heights in a newly refurbished plant. Last generation Sebrings (sedans and convertibles) were built in Sterling Heights as well, after production moved from Toluca, Mexico (where 1st generation JA and JX cars were made) to make room for PT Cruiser production.
