“emjay”, “BMW’s ride is nicer for a few more dollars” is what I wrote and tried to convey. My position that the G looks better is something that I’ve experienced regularly (granted it’s not scientific), where most of those people that I know or have seen react to a 3 versus G tend to sway towards the G in a convincing way.

Regardless of the design being ironed out, the silhouette itself is art whereas the 3 is not. And I have a feeling the interior of the 3 will continue in its cold, machine-like “unwelcomeness” where the G will surprise.

Your view that the G will be fighting off its back is also subjective if the reviews of the G sedan are any indication … time will tell.

Impulsive, you stated to Renton that his view concerning the 3er being the nicer ride is subjective. True, but so is your statement that the G dominates looks-wise. The new 3er coupe is absolutely stunning both visually and dynamically. I test drove a 335i last week at West German BMW and it exceeded even my lofty expectations. The G35/37 will be fighting off it’s back in a battle with this beast. Plus, we haven’t even seen the final design of the new G coupe keeping in mind that Japanese production vehicles rarely resemble their concept counterparts. Shiro Nakamura is full of it. In addition to the crease up front, expect changes to the side mirrors, headlights and taillights, wheels, ride height, and interior for sure. I’ll bet the only thing that remains unmolested is the coupe’s silhouette and proportions. I’m sure it will still be a hot ride though.

“Renton”, it’ll probably be a G37 and reading what one of the car mags wrote about the BMW versus G35 this month (last month), I think this new coupe will close the gap.

Your view that BMW’s ride is nicer for a few more dollars is subjective. The vast majority of drivers will not track either car, so the handling is a moot point. Sure, the true enthusiasts will probably dismiss the G because it’s not the benchmark, but I’d guess there are more buyers of these cars that are not of this ilk. And these buyers, after test driving both vehicles, will then focus on looks (where the G dominates) and on price (where it also dominates), and maybe sway towards Infiniti.

All of this ignores the group of buyers who are badge buyers catering to an image, where BMW clearly makes a load of sales.

It had better be real good to beat a new 335i coupe. That is a nice ride.

These G35 coupes are beautiful, well done, fast, all that and more. When it comes time to write the check, I just tend to thing the 3 series coupe is a nicer ride for just few dollars more.

If Infinty really wnts to make a name for itself, it should make an M3 competitor for regular 3 coupe money. That will bring them in. When it is similar performance for just a few dollars less, I’ll choose the BMW.

Infinty is on the right track, they should hire me. I know what they need to do.

I guess that is why he said “nearly” identical. Nearly is a subjective term. The Japanese don’t lie – they just exaggerate.

theres no way the production car is going to look exactly like the concept. those rims and the ride height for example, or those cool translucent headlight and taillights, not to mention the side mirrors…what a lie..

I think it looks great, and I’m glad they are sticking to the concept’s styling. I hope they use the concept’s interior too. Not sure if that glass roof will make it to production though.

I owned an ‘03 G35 Coupe, and I think it was the best looking car for the money. I had a lot of transmission problems (6MT), and a lot of squeeks and rattles, but if they fix those quality/design issues, I might consider getting one of these new ones again. I seldom buy a car on looks alone, but this one looks so good it is tempting.

no matter how they change the crease it will still look amazing. Now does this mean that those sweet cameras-for-mirrors will make it into production and those headlights? I would never think they would but he said only one change..

Hal, the reason is that it’s more practical with a back seat. I have an ‘06 G35 coupe and could never see myself getting a Z for that reason.

Keep the crease! Make the ‘07 G35 look just like that and not only will they keep me as a customer but a lot more people.

I agree with ya Carnut4ever I prefer the pointed look better than the toned down production versions! My buddy owns a 1st Generation G35 with the GPS great car. He’s now looking at the 2007 model (G35) but if it’s not aggresive looking he’ll be buying a 2006/2007 350Z plus its cheaper he may even go with the roadster. Double Income No Kids!

Frankly, I like that pointed look better than the toned down production versions. At least it makes the car a little more different than the last G35. Maybe they are trying too hard to resemble the FX series suv.
