Hans G. Lehmann has snapped some pretty telling photos of the next Land Rover Freelander. The next Freelander is expected to be priced close to the BMW X3 , in the “entry level” compact SUV segment. The new Freelander is based on the C1 global platform used in the Volvo S40/V50, Mazda 3, and European Focus. Recent reports indicate the Freelander will switch to a transversely mounted in-line six-cylinder engine from Volvo. A five-cylinder diesel is also rumored as on option on the SUV. Ford is also said to be planning a similar SUV crossover offering from Volvo. Moreover, a recent report suggested the so-called XC50 would offer a selection of inline-5 and -6 engines.
