New local UAW strike disrupts GM crossover production

04/16/2008, 4:19 PM

By paulee

It looks like GM can’t catch a break lately, as a fresh UAW strike at Alliance Interiors, the automaker’s interior parts supplier, disrupted production of its crossover SUVs. The strike involves 90 workers at Alliance, located in Lansing, Michigan, over contract negotiations with the UAW that started nearly one year ago, in May.

As a result of the walk-out, production of the Lambda platform CUVs (Buick Enclave, Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia) was halted on Wednesday morning at GM’s Lansing Delta Township assembly plant, with partial production slated for the day’s second shift, according to a GM spokesperson in an Automotive News report.

“We are ready to hold talks any time, any place,” said UAW Local 724 Dean Poggiali, “and sit down to work out a deal that is fair and equitable to our members.”

Anyone care to explain to me why GM seems to be unwitting target of every labour disruption lately? Ford and Chrysler seem to be avoiding all of it. Just coincidence, or are there greater forces at work here?

injunraiv, makes sense. However, it is funny that with the pack mentality of the UAW you would assume they would attack the weak first.

I think it is the greatest present GM could get. It will be very difficult to sell CUV/SUV in coming spring and summer months ($4-5/gallon). GM is not aware of it, but this strike is a blessing.

injunraiv- Ford is doing pretty well financially, they have European markets that GM is loosing.

It’s more or less because Ford and Chrysler are being more lenient with their contracts. There are major differences, their focusing more on layoffs rather than cutting vehicle costs.

This is kind of laughable at this point. When GM made this “breakthrough” deal with the UAW, I wonder if they mentioned how they’d be striking at everyone of their suppliers in the very near future? Sweet deal.

The “strike” mentality is so mature.

Your company can no longer afford your overpaid asses. Adjust. Sorry.

The gravytrain has dried up.

They are bolting together better machines in South Carolina for less money. I don’t see them on strike.

Yeah you don’t have unions in the south, that’s why you couldn’t take care of the Hurricane Katrina disaster! If you would of had unions there, it wouldn’t have been a problem. All the Unions from the Northen states had to come and help! Nice hillbilly southern engineering by the way for those levees to burst. That **** would never happened in the north, cause people in the north are smarter when it comes to engineering. Why do you think all the high tech jobs are in Michigan and California, because they are Unions States! The worst education in the US is located in the Southern states! All the low, slave wage, brainless labor jobs are in the south. Have fun with hurricanes, poisinous reptiles, spiders, insects, Ocean man eating fish(sharks), stinging jellyfish, stingrays, child eating gators, frequent power outages, droughts, wildfires, illegal immigrants, high pollution smog, overpopulation, traffic. FL consists of REDNECKS, RETIREES, CUBANS AND HATIANS. I’M JUST GETTING WARMED UP/STARTED!!!

Hurricane katrina, did you not see WHY nothing got done there? They were too busy stealing Nike’s and waterlogged tv’s. Don’t even get me started on what the north consists of other than a bunch of arrogant, self centered, rude, @$$ holes and those are the good ones. “Ocean man eating fish”??? What a dumb @$$, no wonder you have a union job. And there aren’t any illegals, cubans, hatians or retirees anywhere around here, this isn’t miami, tampa or orlando retard. High tech jobs in michigan and california??? Maybe because ca has over 30 MILLION people with more money than most other countries. And your michigan jobs are DYING, so make out your will, I’ll be sure to piss on your grave.

Getting back to the discussion… This ‘pack’ mentality might be accurate, but if they were going for the weaker first why did they start negotiations with GM and not Chrysler? I think they had the most to gain by going to the strongest. You can’t get blood from a stone, ya know?

Hurricane katrina, did you not see WHY nothing got done there? They were too busy stealing Nike’s and waterlogged tv’s.-HHR. didn’t see no looting going on when 9/11 happened in NYC, and New York is a Northern state. People Came togather! Unlike the south when Katrina happened, people shooting at cops. FL,the highest home foreclosures next to Nevada and AZ. HHR your parents home is next for foreclosure because we all know you still live with them. The south lost the civil war to the north because they didn’t have unions! Confederates were a low rent disorganized bunch of rednecks. Half of FL will be covered by the ocean in 2030. Then all the rednecks in the south will be fleeing to the North, just like they did along with all the black southerners in the 60’s, who ruined Detroit.
Detroit used to be the wealthiest and nicest city, until the southerners who came there for automotive jobs, and destroyed it. FL will always be a runned down ****hole worse than Detroit from hurricanes, and dumb southerners. New Orleans makes Detroit look like paradise or heaven. HHR I’ll be pissin on your parents foreclosed house before you piss on my grave.
Oh BTW, the Money in FL is from the wealthy Northerners! FL would be nothing without the Retired Northerners $$$.
